    WiFi Problem with the 9930

So after an hour on the phone with tech support (level 1 and 2), I have to go into a Verizon store to get a new Bold 9930.

    Here's the back story:

I got my Bold a few days ago and tried to connect it to my home WiFi network. It shows a solid connection with the SSID at the top with white bars. But I can't get it to browse to any webpage while on WiFi. As soon as I turn it off, it works just fine. By the way, 3G connection + the new browser = a quick experience.

So with all the battery pulls, and reloaded the OS...there is nothing they can do.

That's crazy, as I was telling you earlier today, my Wifi is working just fine.

Mine worked very fine and is working fine but I'm still confused as to the connection that my browser is using when I'm connected to wifi and 3g at the same time. Can someone please tell me?

The Wifi should automatically override your 3G when it's connected.

That's the wonderful thing about BlackBerrys that I love. RIM designed them to always use WiFi when available and they also tried to design their apps to do the same. Some apps do need to have the data on at the same time, so don't turn it off, but they will still use WiFi first if available.

So on my replacement Bold...still no WiFi . It must have something to do with my CableOne router.

Have you rebooted your router? Also what security encryption are you using wep, wpa?

You may want to make sure there are some issues with wep.

Here are a couple of links describing the difference between WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) and WPA (WiFi Protected Access).

Now while I am still in the dark ages and using WEP, it is still working for me. However, I soon must upgrade to a dual band router to deal with the many devices in my house tugging on a limited band width. A single band router (the 2.4 GHz band used by 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n) is limited when you have several devices, especially if one of the devices uses lots of band width, while a dual band (both 2.4 GHz, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, and 5 GHz, 802.1a) allows all the devices have tons of band width to keep functioning.

It is WPA. The wifi radio does work, because it was working on my friend's wifi network without a hitch. For me...and on my router...nothing. No host name. Any ideas?

Is your router not working? Do other devices work with your router?

Try to use other WIFI to connect, maybe it's something with your router but first let us know if it's something you have only with YOUR wifi.

This might be a dumb question, but you do have a BlackBerry data package, right?
