Will it charge my Playbook?
Unfortunately that is not possible. However, you can use your playbook charger to charge certain BlackBerry devices.
The Bold 9700/9780 Micro-USB Car Charger (Mnf#:ASY-18083-001/ASY18083001) cannot charge the BlackBerry PlayBook, there's just not enough juice.

However, my OEM BlackBerry CLM-03D car charger will charge my BlackBerry Bold 9900, and my BlackBerry PlayBook
I am :D that it can charge both when I am mobile on the road.

So how will I know if the OEM charger I have will work on the Playbook?
Hi. Yes I had read the previous posts but your:
"However, my OEM BlackBerry CLM-03D car charger will charge my BlackBerry Bold 9900, and my BlackBerry PlayBook. I am :D that it can charge both when I am mobile on the road."
was the reason for my follow-up question.
I understand what you're concern is, but your BlackBerry Bold 9700 car charger just doesn't have enough juice to charge the BlackBerry PlayBook, unlike my charger, which can safely charge my PlayBook.
The charger I have has the exact same voltage output to charge my PlayBook.
Ah. I see. I am afraid that I worded my original question title badly. It infers my charger is the Blackberry branded charger when it is, in fact, an OEM. Sorry for that. I actually want to know what output spec. a car charger will need to charge the Playbook and would that damage the Bold 9700 if used with that as well?

Also, in another post, I read on the net,Posted by Unknown on 15th Aug 2011Quote:
only 0.5 amps - not for playbook!
In plain BlackBerry language, use only approved BB car chargers for specific device or device(s).Quote:
not enough amps to charge the playbook. the description should have been more detailed so i wouldn't have to pay to ship his back.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
It does. Thank you very much. I'll order a dedicated charger.
All this silliness about "approved chargers"............my car charger I use for my 9810 is homemade..........i bought an old one for......i think it was an old motorola (about an inch wide, two prongs) and cut it off before the coils and spliced in an extra home charger I had and it works perfectly.......a 6 foot, uncoiled car charger...........havent tried it on my playbook (i drive truck.......BB gets charged 2 to 3 times a night up front, playbook is plugged in in the back) but im just sayin, try it. i've used one on my bb that wasnt powerful enough, and it just gave me an error message. I do, however, use the same HOME charger for both, and it's a BB charger........my PB charger is only used with a power inverter in the truck........
There is nothing wrong with doing this type of rig, but the only thing to watch out for is the amps and power output. Some chargers have too much juice converted through and can fry a device if not used properly. But it seems like you know what you are doing. *beer*
