Hi guys

I hope someone can help me ... I'm getting this error message:

Uncaught exception:
Application
net_rim_bb_phone_app(71)
is not responding; process terminated

My phone freezes a couple of times a day, some minutes later the above popup window appears - and I receive at least one email. So I'm pretty sure this bug is linked to receiving emails.

I followed your instructions to change the phone app's permissions to allow, I wiped my phone a couple of times, I removed ALL apps and reinstalled only a few. I even got a brand new device from my provider (Orange, Switzerland).

I have no idea what to do ... this error moved on to my brand new phone when I restored my last backup.

My device is a BB 9700 bold with OS v5.0.0.862 (Bundle 1664, Platform 5.1.0.175).

I found out about a few apps that have been leaked to this issue.
Do you have these apps installed, fixmo Tools app and/or wifix app? If so, delete them, then reboot. See if it fixed the problem.

I think I found a way to determine what is causing the issue, either an app or a theme. Press and hold down the alt key while typing lglg. this will get you into your event log, scroll down and see if any are highlighted or have an error message attached. if you find one open it and sometimes you will be able to tell if its an app or a theme, and if it is, you can delete it and see if that solves the problem.

A: No, I don't. My current 3rd party apps are facebook, gmail, google maps and whatsapp messenger.

i'm a newbie, the phone or the pc software didnt invite me to update i think ... but good idea. i guess i have to do that manually?

the phone just crashed again, this time with the message net_rim_bb_qm_peer(208) and the rest of the message same as above. it was just on my desk, i didnt even use it. i can't click on the bbm button now, can only enter bbm via the emails. this is a nightmare

its very eazy to change the os from your BB . instal latest desktop m download os v6.0.0.650 and instal it on your computer!! download BBSAK and wipe device . then delet file vendor xml (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader) then loader.exe and u must w8 like 30 min !!! dont forget to make a backup and restore it !! if u dont understand a moderator can explain more i think !! marax, have you upgraded your OS to relieve you device of this problem?

hi, no, not yet ... didnt have time yet and was hoping for an easier solution. i connected the bb to my pc y'day to copy some music on the microsd and the tool popped up, i hit update but it didnt suggest to update to 6.5, 5.x seems the latest (official).

i guess that 6.5 is some inofficial, untested version? what's the benefit of it?

i'd prefer to have a solution for my problem for my current os - a lot of my friends use BB 9700, none of them expeciences this problem

The kind of wipe they are talking about is a complete wipe, not a factory reset, which you cannot do from the device or through the DM. Your problem is with the OS being corrupted, a factory reset will not fix it. Follow Neolantis's howto, listed above, and your device should be fixed. And yes, some types of OS corruption can be carried over from the device switch wizard.

Also, there are a few "official" versions of OS6 for the 9700, your carrier may not have officially approved one, more than likely through laziness, but any carriers official version will work. Check the downloiads tab above for official OSs.

i will do this now ... i'm a little scared though, my provider is orange in switzerland, none of the ones in the dl section ... hope this works anyway

guys remember allways when u jump from os 5 to os 6 u need to wipe device !!! dont forget to make a freeacking backup

i didnt solve the problem ... but it looks fancy no honestly, the uncaught exception + freeze thing shows up less often but still does. i must have transferred the bug with my backup onto the new device and new os.

Uninstall all 3rd party apps, then reinstall one by one, and observe which one creates the error.

i'm pretty sure it's something with the email (client) - or with the group chat. Got another error message saying application net_rim_bb_qm_peer(1721) today and the phone freezed

If you are getting a OS error I suggest another OS.
