Is there any instances where the flash has recently worked? Maybe it's defective...?!?

What device do you have and what version operating system? Have you recently tried to upgrade your operating system?

I guess banging on the ol' clunker is still a useful tactic.

I'm having the same problem as you do. I hope there's no problem with the hardware. I read something about defective BB's that we're sold in Asia. It includes BB overheating, battery draining and camera flash that won't work.

Sometimes it's not the OS, but that it may have just not installed properly. Which means a simple clean wipe and reinstall can take care of a lot of issue.
