Leaked: BlackBerry Bold 9700 OS 5.0.0.979

Just when Bold 9700 owners think the next leaked release is going to be 6.0, there pops up another 5 something into the mix. Well, I'm a betting man, and I'll lay my money on the table that this will be the last leaked 5.0 update you are going to ever see for the 9700. Next in line...OS6.

Be sure to post any of your findings with the installation of this release.

Download the leaked OS from the following links:

I've been running 5.0.0.862 for some time now so i decided to take the plunge with this one, since the other 938 version had mixed results.

So far so good. seems pretty stable.

    v5.0.0.979 (Bundle 1607, Platform 5.1.0.177)
    3G Bands 1,2,5,6
    Crotographic Kernel v3.8.5.85
    Branding Version: 1.0.101.215y
    Micro Edition Configuration CLDC1-1
    Micro Edition Profile: MIDP-2.1
    Micro Edition JTWI Version: 1.0
    Micro Edition Media Version 1.1
    Micro Edition PIM Version: 1.0
    Micro Edition File Version: 1.0
    Micro Edition Bluetooth Version:1.1
    Micro Edition Location Version: 1.0.1
Micro Edition Security and Trust Services (APDU) Version: 1.0
    WLAN Version 2.7.0.88

    Nuance VSuite
    Version: 3.2
    V 3.2.33 (b3.5)

Listen guys, I know we all want OS 6 for the 9700 but it will come in soon.

lets try and concentrate this thread on the results of OS 5.0.0.979 to get some serious feedback.

    Thanks, Simon.

Let's deal with what the facts are. There hasn't been any real difference in the OS 5 since 743 for the 9700.Please release the OS6 for the 9700, Leak or otherwise. This is beginning to look like a gang up. Some owners of the 9700 have not had their phones for 5months! Do the people at RIM think they will readily upgrade to 9780? Add this to the fact that the 9700 is the most popular Blackberry?! COME ON!

    Thumbs up

if you want to "deal with facts" open up your own thread on the conspiracy of OS 6 for the 9700.

lets keep this thread open for discussion on the OS 5.0.0.979 as it was intended.

I downloaded this new .979 for one specific reason, I will NOT be jumping on the bandwagon to install whatever crappy 6.0 release comes out first. There have been precious little variances in the 5.0 releases for sometime. I'll be sticking with the 5.0 until we start getting solid feedback on the various 6.0s that start flooding out (when that finally happens).

These "leaked" releases are no such thing. It is an intentional strategy by RIM to beta test versions and see what happens.

Actually I am really tired of RIM and their games. As soon as the new T-Mobile MyTouch Andriod comes out, I'll be leaving BlackBerry for good.
