Does anybody know where the antenna is located on the 9700?
Does anybody know where the antenna is located on the 9700?
I don't even know the answer to this and I can't even find an answer on the net. This is def a good question.
Nice Find !!!
Is your housing metal? If it is, it will destroy your signal no matter where you are located. Antenna placement is not important as the metal interferes with the signal heavily. I tried a metal battery door and it was a huge mistake
I have a chrome colored housing and a painted housing (plastic) and give me a loss of signal, where I am right now I have 3G, I changed my housing to the plastic one and within 2 minutes my signal goes to EDGE and if I go downstairs to the cafeteria, I get no signal but with the original housing I'm always on 3G.
I can't figure out why.

Well I can guess and say the antenna is located on the middle piece. It's a piece of copper paper like material. When you buy housings it may come with a middle piece but its bare. Meaning you have to switch everything over, including the copper paper like pieces. I did this with my Tour before sending it to Coveroo. I had no idea that the antenna was this tiny piece of copper paper what needed to be pulled off and then carefully put back on the new housing.
Well the housing I have has no midplate, it comes with (Bezel, Top cover, Bottom cover and Battery cover) I noticed that problem happens when I install the bezel and top cover, the battery cover alone causes no problem, next i will install the bezel without the top cover, process of elimination.
I experienced the same effect when I changed my housing to one bought on eBay. As I took off all the pieces that the new housing didn't have, I noticed there is a small connector at the bottom, much like the speaker and buttons type, that connect once the board is in place. It didn't look like much, but I believe the antenna is in the bottom rounded piece of the back (or middle, depends how you think of it) housing.
I think that the cases bought that are not OEM lack the antenna there, and just have plastic where the metal would be.
I'd refer to a picture if I could find one as to where the piece is. I'm not going to take apart my phone to take a picture of it :P.
I found a page that has some pictures.

If you notice the two strips of connector on the bottom of the original housing, that get transferred to the new housing (looking on the inside of the housing from what would be the top). I didn't see how to remove this on the original housing, but this guy seems to have done it.
The housing I purchased had come with the metal plate, camera and flash plastic (or less likely glass) cover and charging points on the inside, but nothing else.
