That's correct. I hope that it works with the AT&T sim card as well, cause when I purchased my 9700, I didn't think about frequencies, I just wanted my next phone to have 3G. For my T-Mobile not to work on AT&T when i travel to Miami next month would be a real pain in the @$$
I can confirm the statements from my two fellow Indonesians up there. T-Mobile & AT&T's 9700s can use our country's 3G bands. My younger brother uses an AT&T 9000 and I use a T-Mobile 9700. No wonder the things sell like damn hotcakes here.
For the record, I previously used a Vodafone 9500 and its 3G works fine too.
YOu CAN get the 9700 Tmobile to work with the standard frequencies, but it isn't easy. You need access to be able to change the vendor ID. All 9700's are identical, but the vendor ID decides what frequencies to use. Change it from say T-Mobile's Vendor ID to AT&T Vendor ID and you are good to go.
Then again, stating this doesn't make it easy, you need access to the proper RIM tools, which don't really ever see the light of day outside of well....RIM
