Thread: Almost lost a Bold....

Hi All...


I;ve not long been a Bold owner and decided this week to dable in the 5.0 OS.... well..

I wiped the phone and was all going well the 5.0 OS was great....

I then decided to downgrade and revert back to 4.6.0.282 as I wanted my apps to work and I dont have the exe yet for the .291 OS... well thats when the fun started..


I wiped the device back to 507 Screen using BBSAK and attempted to use the loader to reload the device using the loader app... and nothing... all I got was the FATAL error messge... no sweat I though and decided to reboot the phone and PC and try again....

No joy... trying to keep calm and wonder if my new bold was now a very expensive paperweight.. I went on the hunt for a solution and came across this link

Success... took almost and hour to reload the device but all is well and the bold lives on.


Moral of the story is... Back up 1st and do your home work before attempting anything tricky.

Oh yes.. a very scary place indeed... at one point the PC refused to recognise even the unknown COM port.

In the last sixt month I been there almost every two weeks, but I'm not scared anymore, once you get used to, you find that a lil funny

Been there, done that. It's scary, but it's great you succeeded in the end!!

When i did my very first OS upgrade i was watching and watching the hourglass go in circles waiting and wondering if this was a mistake :laugh2: But it wasn't i have changed OS a few times w.o no problem at all, hope i don't gynx myself tonite :1244:.

Well, I almost lost my Bold too today! I tried to downgrade from 5 (130) to .282 since Beejive won't work on that version, on a different computer then the one I upgraded from. Bricked my Berry! It's only when I came home today, and used BBSAK to load OS, did it load the OS back again! Whew!
Only thing is, it loaded OS 5 again. I'm too scared to downgrade, now that my Berry is up and running again.

Glad you were both able to get your Bolds back up and running

OS's upgrades and downgrades can be very tricky. Always back up and ask questions when in doubt!

Many thanks for all the help guys! I have now successfully downloaded to .282 and am happy! I will upgrade only when the new OS is available officially! It was quite a frightening experience to see my Bold turn into a brick!

Whew, that was close. I am happy it worked out as well.

You can't be a seasoned veteran, until you've bricked your first phone.... Then frantically scrambled to fix it, and it always seems to happen when your limited on time. :lmao:

ha...well, my girlfriends blackberry bold 9000.. she says she forgot the password... i did download jl_cmder but im kind of frghtened to do anything.

what happens if she enteres the pasword wrong more than 10 times?

Ive heard it wipes the phone but I'm not sure if that's the password in app loader or the phone itself.
