Thread: New BBM causes handheld wipe?

so yesterday I put the new bbm on my buddies bold. I loaded it up and it was working fine. I get a call this mornung.; apparently he did a battery pull and it wiped his phone. He is bringing me the phone in about n hour to look at. Has anyone encountered this before? Or is this an isolated incident?

This is the first I have head of it TR? If that was the cause then WOW. Let us know what happens after you get a chance to look at it

That's very strange. What does he mean by wipe? All data and settings gone?

Does he have quickpull or any other program that does a scheduled soft reset?

His memory is probably full and when it gets full it erases data like phone log, text and email messages

Or was it that he lost all bbm contacts. I have had this issue and attribute it to the fact I run multiple devices. This can be attributed to having multiple emails on one device. For some reason BBM will switch email accts, this could be user error but I haven't determined that yet.

If it were in fact BBM contacts that were wiped, could the OP do a contact restore from the device?

Interestingly enough, I have lost my BBM contacts on more than one occassion when installing a new os. The solution I found was quite simple, but frustrating enough, if you have set DM to backup your device when connected.

1) Open DM
2) Go to Backup/Restore
3) Select Advanced
4) Select the File Button

5) Select Open
6) Find the most recently saved file
7) A list of items backed up will appear on the left. You can select them all to move over, I just select Blackberry Messenger and press the arrows that point right.

You are Done.

Also p3 and everyone else, don't forget that you have an option to back up and restore from bbm itself. When in bbm, click bb key, options and scroll down for back up option.

The mystery continues...my friend came to see me. And the phone was legitimately wiped. However after doing a battery pull everthing restored itself. He doesn't run any third party apps, no beta OS's...heck he was still on his stock OS. So this was really weird.his bb is running smoothly now though.

what's an original os for the bold? we do know that BBM5.0 didn't work on the earlier curve os's maybe that's the problem.

I saw this happening too on some of my friends' 9000s, and it is not just a Bold 9000 only incident.

One friend installed BBM5 on her Curve 8900, and after a battery pull, there were five application icons missing from her 8900. I told her to stay calm, pull out the battery again for 10 minutes, pray :hail:, then put the battery back in. To our amazement, it works just like that, just like nothing ever happened, the icons came back and no problem has arisen yet since that one incident.

Hello DarkBerry and welcome to BBOS.

It's nice to see that the old reliable battery pull is still the cure all to end all. Since installing BBM 5.0 as well as the 5.0 OS for the 9530 on my device, I can say with all honesty that I finally just left my case of the Storm for the entire day just so I could have quick access to the battery panel. Today, all seem wells. Not one single pull for about 16 hours now and app memory is holding around 43Mb.

I think that is such a great option on BBM5.
