Bold 9000 battery drain

Hi to all,
I recently swiched to a bold 9000 smartphone. I am very pleased with my selection except from the battery life. I have installed a number of OS5 but no luck with any of them.
I wiped the device and reset it to factory settings using BBSAK.
I am currently on OS v5.0.0.1079 bundle 1748 platform 5.2.0.95.
I have spent the last 3 weeks reading posts and solutions but none of them seem to work on my device. The maximum I have gotten out of the phone is 5 hours of use (or non-use I should say since the phone is on 2G and used for a couple of quick phone calls and 2 or 3 emails). If I put it on 3G battery lasts for 3 hours wihtout doing anything. If I use like I used all my other balackberries then in 2 hours the battery is dead. I have also noticed that when the battery drops to 50% then the discharge is much much faster (maybe half an hour).
I have checked my battery and it is working fine. It also charges fine both with AC outlet charger and USB (it is new after all).
I have set backlight brightness to 30 backlight timeout to 10 seconds no applications running in the background but I can not manage any better than 5 hours which makes the phone useless for my 16 hours day(I don't mind charging it every night but I need it to get me through the day).
I have checked the eventlog file but I do not see anything suspicious based on my understanding apart from the "a net.rim.memclean - FrmF" that is running every 2 or 3 minutes for about ten times each. Is this a probable cause for the battery drain?

I will greatly appreciate if any of you have some ideas as to what to do to make this device productive for me.

You said that the battery is new? Even if it is new, you may want to see if you can borrow another battery for a day and see how it works.

Another thing, make sure that you aren't running a GPS app all day, or that you close them out after you finish using any application. On the OS 5 devices, if you don't close out apps they can stay open and drain the battery fast. To close out a app after you are done, just hit the BB menu button and select "exit" or "close" from the menu list.

Actually this is the third battery I am using on this device. All batteries lasted for max 5 hours.
GPS application and all related to it are closed and/or disabled. I also make sure that I exit the applications and not just close them.
I would like your opinion about an OS5 that has better battery management. Do you think I should downgrade to an OS4?On the other hand I am thinking that maybe a hardware problem is eating up the battery. Maybe a short circuit? I dont know...
I ve tried almost anything with no success...

I see. What's your device radio signal strength like in your area? If it's too weak it can cause excessive strain on the battery. You may want to try and shut off all connections and leave your device on to see how well it holds a charge.

My signal strength is good. 3-5 bars when in 3G and 5 bars when in 2G. When I set 2G & 3G I get about 3 hours out of my phone. When I set it to 2G I get about 5 hours. However when in 2G there is a lot of noise when I am talking on the phone.

I will try your suggestion and I will get back to you with the findings...

There is no clear answer when it comes to how much battery life you may receive as there are several factors involved.

Hello again Joe...
So I took out the sim card from the Bold 9000, I left it on with all connections off and guess what... Battery life is almost the same!!! Actually it imroved by about 10%. The phone was on for about 6 hours while with the Sim card inserted and 2G it will last for 5+ hours.
Now Bold is completely dead (due to complete drainage of the battery).
So Based on the above I assume that it is the OS causing the drain. Is that correct? Do you know a version of OS5 that has a good battery management? Any version even hybrid???
I wait anxiously for your suggestions...

It's either the OS or you have a internal hardware problem. Let's start with the OS first. I found a OS in our Downloads Center that looks like has some positive comments about the battery. Try it out and let us know... 9000_5.0.0.1049 - Downloads - BlackBerryOS.com

I have already tried the OS you are proposing but the results were the same.

I am currently on v5.0.0.1036 bundle 1682. First impressions are that this one is a little bit better. I will try it for a week or so and I will let you know...

Agree with you. This is the best solution to save battery. Addtionally, Don't turn on 3G or Wifi all time.
