I have just purchased a Blackberry 9000 Bold on ebay, When I plug into the mains charger all I get is the LED flashing 4 times. Can anyone let me know what this problem is?
Is there a way of fixing this?

Hello DPP3003,
Welcome to BBOS. Unfortunately this is not a good sign. If you pull the battery out what color is it? Also does the screen flicker at all. Have you tried a generic battery pull, and then let it sit for a few minutes?
I have done the usual battery pulls, I have even got a new charger, I am waiting for a new battery. Since I got it i have had no responce from the screen so For all I know it maybe dead. It does start Blackberry Desktop Manager when you connect it to the computer via USB and recognizes the model of the phone but it just says it can connect it because it may be restarting or the battery is dead. even when it connected for a long period it has no response.
Hopefully the new battery will have some effect. This would be the obvious starting point, I was just curious what the 4 flashes meant. The Battery is black, looking at it it does not look like the original. New battery will be here in the morning, hopefully it will shed some light on the situation. Will keep the post updated with progress.
One thing you may try is to check the moisture strips inside the unit, if they are pink, you have moisture damage, but its never a good thing when the LED blink 4 times on and off like that. Im sorry, but you may have a borked device.![]()
There's is one issue I know of. Blackberry devices do not do well with after market batteries. From your description of the battery it came with, I can tell you it is not an OEM battery and that is most likely the problem.
Also, Blackberry devices don't like after market chargers either. You'll need and OEM battery and OEM charger.
Have you connected the phone to your computer and BBM without the battery installed? I have heard that sometimes it will work.
You can try the How-To Recover A Nuked Blackberry - with Pictures link in my signature and see if you can get some life back into your phone so you can use it while waiting for the OEM battery.
Let us know how it goes.
