Are you saying that the BB back light is not working with or without the usb?

First start with the basics. Try using a different battery and try using a different USB cord. Very very small chance this could be the issue. As stupid as it sounds I have seen it happen before. If still nothing then I would contact your carrier tell them it is defective and I am sure they will send you another one.
