Add your gvoice phone number to your friends and family then you call using Gvoice on the phone and all calls just became airtime free!
That is how to do it on Verizon.
Or... Are you asking how to use google voice in general?
I just said I dont have friends and family lol.
So then thats the only way to get free calls?
I got the lowest minutes plan with verizon at the moment since I'm not using it much, but I guess if I was to run into minute trouble I can add friends and fam.
Now how about sms , how do I go about doing that for free?
The SMS works over your data connection. The SMS messages go from your gvoice number, not your verizon number.
Sorry, I thought you meant you don't use F an F... You will need that period to make free calls. Google voice originates a call from your verizon number to your gvoice number then completes the call to the person you called, hence requiring the free call to friends and family. Airtime free!
Yes, that is it. you don't ever use your blackberry SMS for this, you do it though the google voice app though, don't forget.
I use it all the time, with my vzw friends and family too. Only downside is without the google voice app for my handset. I call my google number, and then dial out, and I can't sdee the number in my call log.
Other than that, I love it.
SMS count as out of network msgs, on VZW at least.
Here is how it works for free SMS, sing in to your google voice account on a pc (www.google.con/voice), under settings select deliver SMS via email, that way you get them as an email, you will be able to reply via email, or open google voice app on the phone, menu address book, and SMS using google voice, that's it.

OK, so I just Dled the app, and with the app on my handset this is the ish. I even paid for my goog # on ebay.
As jnepsa said outgoing are unlimited, but incoming is based on package.
The outbound are handled similar to pin, but inbound as far as i can tell, and just repeating this at this point, forward to the cell # and are out of network. But how that affects your billing is based on price plan/features.
Tested this with my phone and my wifes phone. the message sent from google app (data billing) and the reply was recieved in SMS/MMS folder (text/sms billing)
But now that i have the app, I am even more in love with it :07:
I tested the forward to email option, and it still sends a copy to you handset as sms and then email too. So no way around that. unless you remove your number, but then no calls can be made.
I dont see the "deliver SMS" option. I do see:
SMS Forwarding https://www.google.com/voice/resourc...-help_dark.gif Forward SMS messages to my email:
which I believe is different from what you mention ealvnv
Sorry if I'm causing confusion since Im new to this app, but you gotta see all the other answers I was getting via bbm so I figured Id ask here.
ealvnv is right, I didn't think about that part, the incoming sms. Yes, it delivers to your verizon sms if you don't tell it to go to email.
Good catch!
The free calls thing is absoutely true with friends and family. If you are a big phone talker, this is a must have before VZW figures out how to stop it.
