Thread: AmAze GPS

Here's an application that I keep hearing good things about but no matter how many times I have installed seems like a complete bust. Perhaps I am missing something and one of our members can point me in the right direction.

I have tried it with both the Storm and Tour on VZW and in both cases no GPS location can ever be found (and clearly my GPS is turned on and functioning). The issue is just that no GPS can ever be located. Is there some secret GPS trick to this app?

So if anyone can shed some light on this I would appreciate it.

I have tried this several times on my storm I get the same issue. It never can find a GPS location!

any 1 who has the knowledge i need clarification on why this application is blocked by VZW i tried to add this to my cousing 82xx and it wouldnt register at all.. ?

Alright good so it not just me. I have seen many claim this is the best free GPS app.

It was workin fine for me until 191 no gps picks up but goes crazy when trying to put in a location. The first time you try and pick up a satellite it could take up to 30 minutes to pick it up try leaving it open and out like on your dash for 30 minutes or so see if that will get it started. Really I was standing in an open location for about 10 minutes and never got a signal. After the first time it recongizes your location, does it pick up your spot more quickly on the second and third time, etc.

Ok I will give it a shot on my Tour as that seems to be a more stable OS.

It worked great on 151 after the first time it picks up it connects pretty fast. One note when trying to set your location or add an address especially setting your location at first use the arrows at the bottom to scroll it will make it much easier on the storm... Oh wait nevermind you're putting it on a tour. I think i'm going back to 151 now but am really gonna miss a few of the features of the 5.0

I can't speak for the Tour, but I do know there is a special version specifically written for the Verizon Wireless 9530 Storm - much like Google Maps, the default version does not work. If I can find you a direct link, i'll update the post.


EDIT: sorry 'bout that, completely missed the post right above mine. Don't know what is going on then, as it works fine on mine.

THanks guys for all of you help. At about the 10 minute mark and it has not recognized GPS yet. Will let you all know if it does.

For Amaze, download the BES version for the Verizon version of the Storm.....there are actually four versions for the Storm. A BIS and BES version for each of the Storm (listed under Blackberry) and Verizon Storm (listed under Verizon). You must download under the Verizon listing AND for some unknown reason, every Storm I've installed it on has needed to use the BES version. (YES, even if you're on BIS, get the BES version).

One other thing, use the OTA installation and not via DM. It will fix the GPS within a minute or two the first time. I've done 4 or 5 of them and every single one, including my unlocked Storm needed BES from the Verizon listing.

Funny.... I didn't need to use the BES link. But then again, this just proves that jlevy73's signature is the truest thing that has ever been written.

I downloaded the VZW fix GPS option for Storm (I'm on VZW) onto my PC and installed to device using DM. It got a fix during the set-up...as soon as I put my region settings in. Seems to be working fine on BBCM V 8.5 although very slow during the setup. Will reboot and see if it settles in but the GPS function is definitely there and working.

Last time I used it was on Storm running stock 148, installed with ota link, worked as advertised. I configured with bbmaps not google.

Going on 60 minutes, no GPS lock. Will try the suggestion of installing the BES version.

just for fun i tried it...locked on very fast. still not sure how to use it.

yes, I'm using BBmaps but I also have google maps installed on device. Any idea how to use it as the source? With BBmaps, no satellite views
