Thread: BBM5 Contacts Mixed Up Issue and Solution

Hello all. With the help of Morganizer we'd like to post this possible problem. BBM5 could possibly mix contacts between devices, or worse.

We discovered a big problem tonight from people having a common email added through BIS (general email at a site...). BBM5 uses every email account on your device to archive your contact list, etc. So basically whenever you do a hard reset or change OS, etc. BBM5 is pulling the info from the shared address along with all your other accounts and everyone's contact lists are getting intertwined. BIG FAIL.

Here is the fix. Go into BBM5 and hit bb key > edit my info. Scroll all the way down and you'll see a list of all your email accounts on your Berry. Set an email account OTHER than your shared to default (bb key > make email default). Then scroll to the shared address and hit bb key > deactivate email.
Here's the catch... every time you do a hard reset, change OS, or reboot you're gonna have to repeat this process or it's gonna get AFU again.

OR downgrade to regular BBM

I woke up one day with 25 extra contacts, most of whom I didn't know, and one of them was ME!! I wasn't getting as many BBM messages as before, and a few of my more common conversation people had to reinvite me to get it to work. It showed a different PIN then what I had posted. My wife uses a BB, and I'm her only contact. She wasn't getting my messages, I checked the contacts and it was no longer me, but one of MY contacts. (I know what you're thinking, but different state altogether... ). We share an email address between us as well. so...

I don't think this will affect the majority of users, but Site Admins/Mods etc. might have an issue.

Excellent post! I am one of the ones who was having this problem. My contacts were d/l to my wife's device. The only way (at that time) we found to get rid of the problem was to take the common email account off of both devices and perform a security wipe. Having done that on both devices it seems to have cleared up the problem.

On a positive note, hopefully somebody over at RIM experienced the same problem and when (or if) BBM5.0 is 'officially' released this problem will have been fixed.
