hey now, that is not nice bryan!! :nutkick:

(i just noticed i made it on nate's and sunkast's screenshots, maybe i do tweet too much :lmao

on a good note, ubertwitter has removed the ads for now

    as per ubertwitter.com:

    Ads Have Been Turned Off

We have been listening and have heard you loud and clear! We will not turn advertisements on again until we can offer a a paid option with no advertisements. The paid version will be less then $5 and will likely be a year long subscription model, i.e. all upgrades for a year. If you purchase during the beta period, the year won't start until we release version 1.0. Thank you for your patience and your feedback!

beta4 made some significant improvements. "in reply to" works again (ya!), things seem a bit peppier in general and being able to "goto user" is really handy.

I just wish they would integrate with other media "hubs" (twitpic, yfrog). I know they have their own mypict.me and such, but it would be a welcome addition.

    I can't really complain otherwise.

I'm just surprised they haven't looked at twitpic/yfrog (a la TB) to help transitition people into their product that are comfortable, and need that extra push. Especially pending the pay-per-ad-free-version as that will scare most of the not-currently-UT-users away.

Either way, at the moment of the apps I have access to (haven't been invited to SS, yet) it seems to be the best out there and only getting better.

I wish there was a way to contribute back to the project via code submissions, etc.

You can always send comments like that directly to them by clicking "feedback" from the menu.

Why would you prefer twitpic over uberpic or tweetphoto? They do use twitvid for videos... I think the reason they don't use twitpic is because you wouldn't be able to show your location with your picture then... but that's just a guess...

And as far as the pay-per-version, that's not how its going to work. They are talking about paying for a license that gives you at least a years worth - regardless of the number of upgrades. Once that year is up you will not have to pay for ad free unless there is another upgrade. Thats better than a lot of the other apps out there...

UberTwitter tweeted the following earlier today:

@UberTwiter: We will be releasing a new version on Thursday and will be turning ads back on and offering a paid ad free option

And this is what they have posted on UberTwitter.com

    Unlimited Upgrade Subscription and Ads
We listened very carefully to you last week and as we said, we won't turn the advertisements back on until we can also offer an ad-free option. Later this week we will bring online a mechanism to purchase a subscription to ÜberTwitter with unlimited upgrades for a full year with no advertisements on any of those versions forever for $4.99 USD. Since we are still in the latter stages of our Beta program, the year long subscription period will not start until we push out our first full-release version, likely in early September. Once the subscription mechanism is online, we will turn advertisements back on.

I don't like the following sentence

purchase a subscription to ÜberTwitter with unlimited upgrades for a full year with no advertisements on any of those versions forever for $4.99 US
Seems a little steep to me for a 1 year subscription IMO

I have a fundamental disagreement with charging for this app and will not be upgrading my application. I believe that uber has the right to profit from its program but would like to see them earn it without bending the backs of its faithful users.

One question: how much is tweet genius and if you buy version 1.7 and 6 months later version 2.0 comes out wouldn't you have to pay to upgrade? With UT it doesn't matter if its from1.1 to 1.5 or 1.1 to 2.5 you don't have to pay and can stick with the highest version you paid for as long as you want.

I don't see the big deal. No one out there can touch the features IMO. But my subscriptions are free so what do I know

Oh I agree and that is a good point but I am not big on the word "subscription" never have and never will be fan of that word. Most people know from buying software for the BB's that most upgrades in the 1.x range are free, and then it falls to the developer on whether the upgrade to 2.x is free or not, or at a reduced price. Just my opinion

I think it boils down to how much you use the app. 4.99 for an app I rarely use is too much. But if someone uses it a lot then I see it as being reasonable. Honestly, I won't pay. I really don't see why any Storm user would. The ads are really not that big of a deal on the big screen.

See that's the thing, this is a guarantee that you won't have to pay for any big upgrades. Its not like UT will stop working after that year. I'm pretty sure you can keep the add-free-ness going after the year too, so long as you don't upgrade again after that... to me its a better deal than other paid apps offer

You are right though, subscription is a scary word!

$5 bucks a year for something you will probably use 10+ times a day(I am guessing average, not my compulsive tweeting) that is not a bad deal... the way I look at it is we spend a lot of money on hardware and software for our computers but when it comes to our cell phones we want some one to make it portable, shove it into a tiny little fancy case and make it free...hell, now $5 bucks is not even a cup of coffee anymore...
