Thread: New App: Weatherbug Elite at BB App world

Was checking around the new App World and found Weatherbug Elite. It was $5, but when I owned the iPhone it was my favorite weather app so I went ahead and purchased it. No ads, which is nice.
There are pushed weather alerts that will arrive in either your mail box or calendar, and this is user selectable. One neat thing I really like is that it adds a temperature icon up by your clock. Now I can throw another app in the top row if I want to and still always know what the temp is outside.
Here's a couple shots of it on the Tour so you can see the little temp icon on different screens. So far, no memory leak, although it's only been an hour or so that I've had it running.

Thanks for the mini-review. I have been using the free Weatherbug app. Do you know what the main differences are? I know mine doesn't show the temp by the battery icon.


BTW...what twitter app is that icon for on you home screen?

Some differences...
No ads, which is really nice.
Push notifications for weather alerts. I really like that.
Lightning alerts.
More layers for the radar maps.
Graphs for forecasts.

Me, too. I've been hoping they would make the Elite version for the BlackBerry. I really like it.

Have you noticed any leakage with the new updated version and can you post a pic of the radar overlay on the map? Does it use BB maps like the previous version?(I shrunk BBmaps). Just want to know so I can decide whether to continue waiting on BWeather to go on sale or get this. TY

No leakage at all with the app. But, I do not leave it running in the background. I exit the app and the icon still updates itself every half hour like I set it up to do.

I can't put up a pic of the radar overlay at the moment because there is no rain around us right now. I will have to do that later when there is some rain heading our way. It does still use BB Maps, so you do need to have that installed for it to work.

Will this work with Google Maps??

Wow...in looking at your Meterberry log it doesn't look like app memory is an issue at all with the Tour....112 mb!

why can't that be the case with the Storm?

btw...WB Elite does look pretty sharp...may have to give it a shot even though I am on a Storm....been going weatherless because we have to watch our app memory!

LOL That's one thing I really like about the Tour. Yesterday I decided to turn off the auto reset in MeterBerry. I've been having it do it every morning like I did with the Storm, but now I want to see how long I can go without it. We'll see what happens

I'd be curious to know how this app does with the Storm. I know when I used the original WeatherBug that it killed my Storm. It would slowly suck the memory away until it would lock up on me. Maybe the Elite version would be okay with the Storm.

It needs BB Maps to work. Using this app without being able to use the radar function just seems pointless to me.

That kind of sucks... I usually leave out BB Maps.

the old storm version wouldn't even load without bbmaps

Thanks for the screenshots. When I had WB on my Storm, a simple slide of the finger would change from conditions to forecasts to alerts. But it seems I need to go into options first, then select the screen I'd like on the Tour. Am I missing something? Does WB Elite possibly have the ability to trackballs slide from screen to screen?

Haha about the Tour's app memory. That's one thing I DO NOT miss from my gimped Storm. It's a geek tragedy what happened to that phone.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm in AZ where it gets well over 100 and there have been reports on CB that it only reads 99+ in the temp needle when >100. Of course I already know I'm going to fry, but I'd like to know how fast.
