I have been using SmrtGuard since they made the beta public. I really like it. I just hope the pricing structure will be good as I do want to continue using this software.

I meant to post the other day about the update when I first got it, but didn't. If you haven't upgraded to this version, get it as the backups are super fast ;-) Very much improved over previous versions.

    - I wonder how much the service is going to cost??? I know I completed the survey 4 times... I guess we shall see shortly.
Well today is May 4th, 2009 and the website still has not indicated a price just as yet for SmrtGuard. Also, I do see they are in my neck of the woods (Orlando, FL) this week, so I wonder if they will be "unleashing" the pricing at the 2009 Wireless Enterprise Symposium (WES) booth# 800, there in Orlando.

    Hmmmmmm.....?

Also, it should be noted that I contacted support about pricing yesterday morning via the link on their website, but I have yet to hear anything back just as yet.

If/when I do, you can be sure that I will post back here.

SmrtGuard has been updated to version 1.11. Although it is no longer in beta, if you were a previous beta user, you can download this app to your phone. As always, I keep the first post in this thread updated with the latest greatest information about SmrtGuard, so be sure to peep that out. But in a nutshell, here's what's new in 1.11:

    - Added support for device running OS 4.2.x
    - Due to auto backup runs at top of every hour, we have build it so that it distribute through out the hour to alleviate the load.
    - Move FollowMe as one of the 4 main buttons on the device GUI
    - Revamp the support pages on website
    - Other minor fixes.

    Regards,

    Comments on SmrtGuart 1.11

    Okay,

I felt that I would come back and post my findings on SmrtGuard 1.11.

All in all I really like this application.... but I had a recent issue with my blackberry, and decided to use one of the features that SmrtGuard has at it's disposal: the "Restore" option.

First let me say that I backup my OS using BB Desktop Manager, and I also have a backup using SmrtGuard as well.

Here are items that SmrtGuard claims to backup:

    Contacts
    Memos
    Tasks
    Events
    Call Logs
    and lastly: Emails.

Now having said that, I wiped my BB like I stated before because of issues. I then reinstalled my OS. For the sake of argument, the OS version doesn't matter, but I wanted to get all my Contacts, Call Logs and Emails back. Everything went fine, with one exception... my Emails.

They were restored using SmrtGuard, BUT, with two exceptions:

    1. I lost all my HTML and graphics included in the original emails. They were all PLAIN TEXT :disappointed:
    2. I lost all of my attachments to my emails. See Number 1 above - they were all PLAIN TEXT

So, I deleted all the emails and restored using BB Desktop Manager, and had my attachments and the fancy stuff that was in the original email.

Now, on a positive note, everything else restored wonderfully and back to their original state: Contacts (INCLUDING my pictures I save with each contact)!!! :439: My tasks were fine too ;-) And the call logs were no issue either.

I don't know if I overlooked that in the manual about the downside to emails, and I know I violated a cardinal rule within the IT arena: Verify your backups are good BEFORE you have to rely on the backups!!

Since I like my fancy emails, and the attachments, the BB Desktop Manager worked better for me with that. Perhaps I should deal with emails when I can and file them accordingly, and save attachments to my internal 8GB card/drive on the BB, and then delete the emails that are not necessary.

What's your thoughts on maintaining emails on your BB??

Well, that's all for now... .just posting my findings.... Hope this helps others ;-)

    Warmest Regards,
    Statustray
