    What's new in 1.05 with snapshot of website panel...

    Hey there Shanepark2,

    Yes, I edited my first post and added it there.... but, I will put it here too.... ;-)

    =====
    Here is what's new for version 1.05:

    * Remote Listening Feature - Allows you to enter a phone number, your BB will silently call you back. Great for spying on the thief.
    * Email Ping w/o using the web - Just send an email to your BB Native Account with subject sg-audioping and it will start PING!! No need to log on to the web
    * Remote Lock Device - Allows to remote lock your device.
    * Network Bug Fixes - Many of you had problem with backup. We hope this build resolves this.
    * Bug Calendar Backup and Restore bug
    =====

    What is really interesting to me is the "remote listening feature" which allows you to enter a phone number, and your blackberry will silently call you back.... hehehehehe....

    Man oh man wow ;-)

    Just wanted to post back again about the "Remote Callback Feature".... it works nicely indeed ;-) I wonder if the software developer will be forced to perhaps disable this feature due to possibly invasion of privacy issues... but that's another story.

    Just know that if you initiate the remote callback feature, when you hangup the phone, it can take up to 1 minute for the blackberry to disconnect the call. Also know that it does indeed show the call on the blackberry home screen.

    Regards,
    Statustray

    I meant to post the other day about the update when I first got it, but didn't. If you haven't upgraded to this version, get it as the backups are super fast ;-) Very much improved over previous versions.

    Well today is May 4th, 2009 and the website still has not indicated a price just as yet for SmrtGuard. Also, I do see they are in my neck of the woods (Orlando, FL) this week, so I wonder if they will be "unleashing" the pricing at the 2009 Wireless Enterprise Symposium (WES) booth# 800, there in Orlando.

    Hmmmmmm.....?

    Also, it should be noted that I contacted support about pricing yesterday morning via the link on their website, but I have yet to hear anything back just as yet.

    If/when I do, you can be sure that I will post back here.

    Regards,
    Statustray

    SmrtGuard has been updated to version 1.11. Although it is no longer in beta, if you were a previous beta user, you can download this app to your phone. As always, I keep the first post in this thread updated with the latest greatest information about SmrtGuard, so be sure to peep that out. But in a nutshell, here's what's new in 1.11:

    - Added support for device running OS 4.2.x
    - Due to auto backup runs at top of every hour, we have build it so that it distribute through out the hour to alleviate the load.
    - Move FollowMe as one of the 4 main buttons on the device GUI
    - Revamp the support pages on website
    - Other minor fixes.

    Regards,
    Statustray

    Comments on SmrtGuart 1.11

    Okay,

    I felt that I would come back and post my findings on SmrtGuard 1.11.

    All in all I really like this application.... but I had a recent issue with my blackberry, and decided to use one of the features that SmrtGuard has at it's disposal: the "Restore" option.

    First let me say that I backup my OS using BB Desktop Manager, and I also have a backup using SmrtGuard as well.

    Here are items that SmrtGuard claims to backup:

    Contacts
    Memos
    Tasks
    Events
    Call Logs
    and lastly: Emails.

    Now having said that, I wiped my BB like I stated before because of issues. I then reinstalled my OS. For the sake of argument, the OS version doesn't matter, but I wanted to get all my Contacts, Call Logs and Emails back. Everything went fine, with one exception... my Emails.

    They were restored using SmrtGuard, BUT, with two exceptions:

    1. I lost all my HTML and graphics included in the original emails. They were all PLAIN TEXT :disappointed:
    2. I lost all of my attachments to my emails. See Number 1 above - they were all PLAIN TEXT

    So, I deleted all the emails and restored using BB Desktop Manager, and had my attachments and the fancy stuff that was in the original email.

    Now, on a positive note, everything else restored wonderfully and back to their original state: Contacts (INCLUDING my pictures I save with each contact)!!! :439: My tasks were fine too ;-) And the call logs were no issue either.

    I don't know if I overlooked that in the manual about the downside to emails, and I know I violated a cardinal rule within the IT arena: Verify your backups are good BEFORE you have to rely on the backups!!

    Since I like my fancy emails, and the attachments, the BB Desktop Manager worked better for me with that. Perhaps I should deal with emails when I can and file them accordingly, and save attachments to my internal 8GB card/drive on the BB, and then delete the emails that are not necessary.

    What's your thoughts on maintaining emails on your BB??

    Well, that's all for now... .just posting my findings.... Hope this helps others ;-)

    Warmest Regards,
    Statustray

    I have updated the first post of this thread to reflect the SmrtGuart 1.50 update.

    =====
    Dear SmrtGuard Users,

    What is New?

    - NEW Web Interface.
    - NEW "under the hook" changes for faster backup and restore time.
    - Added support for device running OS 4.2.x
    - Other improvements and updates.
    =====

    ** On another note, I have had to contact support (via email form on their website) because of a issue I was having with SmrtGuard. My backups/restores were working perfectly, but all of the sudden the audio ping, and remote listenin were not working.

    After a few emails back and forth with support, I asked if there was a way for me to get them a file(s) from my Storm to support for them to check out the issue further. As it turns out, they directed me to the event log file that is created on the BBs. Upon closer inspection of the event log report, it turns out that although I my SmrtGuard was "activated", because of the new security protocols, I actually was not being authenticated fully- contrary to the software telling me that I was.

    Would you believe what my issue was??

    Well, it turns out I am one of the early adopters of the software from back when they used both numbers and letters for activation codes (aka alphanumeric). WELL, due to me upgrading my OS and their new security protocols, I had entered in my activation codes in all lower case letters (of course numbers are neither upper nor lower case), and this was the cause of my SmrtGuard no longer working fully.

    A quick re-entry to all upper case letters resolved my issue.

    SmrtGuard indicated they would update their knowledge base and/or totally do away with the alphanumeric activation codes all together but were not sure of which route management would go.

    At any rate, I just wanted to post my findings about v.150 and my communications with SmrtGuard technical support. They are to be commended for working with me this past Friday night from 9-10PM eastern time ;-)

    Regards,
    Statustray

    PS They do respond to tech support issues, but I do wish they had a telephone number though.

    Yes, I agree that the pricing plans are very affordable- especially when you ask youself "how important is my data and the security of my device"?

    I like my Google Sync, but it doesn't give me the security features that SmrtGuard does. I am becoming a paying customer when my current beta testing period is over which is June 30, 2009.

    Who knows, by then they may even adjust the pricing schema some more ;-)

    Regards,
    Statustray
