Thread: Desktop Manager 5.0 back up issues

When I do a backup I get an error that the Theme does not back up. It goes ahead and creates the backup file. Has anyone seen this with Desktop Manager 5.0?

do you mean just under back up and restore or device switch?

If you backed up recently, dm only looks for updated apps. What you need to do is send your previous back ups to a zipped folder then delete original (not zipped) and empty recycle bin. Once you do that, run back up again. Also, remember to clear your browser cache.

I have cleared all backups and emptied the recycle bin. I cleared the browser cache also.

The error is on backing up the theme database. It says 0 of 1 backed up. I am using the theme Blackberry Pro V3.

If I remember correctly backup and restore only saves your theme settings for your 3rd party themes (such as icon placement etc) plus it saves the default zen theme that came on the phone.

In order to save you theme itself you will need to back up your 3rd party apps separately. If DM is not saving your theme settings then there is a corrupted file in there. So I wouldn't worry about it to be honest with you. Next time you restore your phone and use the theme you will have to arrange all the icons from scratch. But that should also remove the corrupted file so when you back up after that it will work.

If I uninstall DM 5.0 and reinstall 4.7 it works without any problem. Does that make sense?

Yes and no

5.0 has been glitchy for some and not for others. What version of 5.0 are you using?

It is the one I downloaded from the Blackberry.com website. It is English only and no media manager.

Ok so you have the latest

Have you tried with your phone plugged in going to backup/restore advanced and scrolling down the list on the right till you see the otpion not backing up and highlight it and select clear? Now if this is your theme settings you will have to re do all your icons. Reset up your theme and then try backing up again and see if that works?

No I haven't. I went back to v4.7. As far as I know I do need 5.0 for any reason right now. Is that correct?

Yep that is correct the only thing besides some encrypt options on 5.0 that i have noticed is that is does my backups faster.

I agree with it doing it faster. I got the same error with my storm and Curve 8330.

Depending on the version of the 5.0 desktop software you were running, the newest 5.0.0.11 should work a lot better for you. It's only been out a couple days and is working nicely.

Since I went back to 4.7 how can I tell if the version I downloaded was 5.0.0.11?

You prolly can't. Just if you update again now, .11 is the version that is most current and should load automatically. If you installed your old 5.0 more than a couple days ago you wouldn't have had .11.

There is a new automatic update that blackberry should prompt when you turn on your computer. i have the leaked 5.0.08 and it still tried to update me. if you are having back up issues (which I was did) clear your browser cache, if that does not work then just reinstall the program (this is the option I chose to do). Takes a handful of minutes.

I have done both and I still have the same problem.

Go back to the theme download page, click the OTA link for the theme, and save it to your PC. then you can just email your phone the link,and it will bring you right to the download when you click the link in the email on your phone. Thats how I do all my OTA files,and they're always saved on my PC for an unfortunate future mishap...lol
