Thread: Google voice app on my storm not working...

When I make a call through the Blackberry Google voice app on my storm ..It appears to be working until it suddenly disconnected right after connecting

This is what happens:

1) Call using Google Voice
2) Initiating call
3) Access number
4) Calling "contact"
5) Connected to +13472345001
6) Disconnected

I'm able to send sms through it though.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong??

Do you have compatibility mode disabled for Google Voice?

To check go to Options > Advanced > Applications.
Highlight Google Voice and press menu.
If it is enabled you should change it to disabled.

Thanks sunkast.. Yes, I should have mentioned I have already disabled compatibility mode. I have also set the app to allow all.

What OS version are you using? Also have you tried a battery pull for good measure?

I hadn't tried that yet..
Just did and no change though. :no:

Well that's about all the ideas I had. I've done some Google searching and haven't come up with any more. The only person I know that may be able to help is member althethird. You could try sending them a PM to see if they have a solution. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Does althethird have this set up on a storm?

Did you try dialing a 1 before the actual phone number. I had to do that in order for it to work.

Thanks ..Yes, all numbers around here require you dial a 1 and the area code.

I'm wondering if there is a setting somewhere in the Google voice web interface settings that needs to be changed??

I think he does. I saw him write up a pretty detailed review of Google Voice, and his profile says he has a 9530.

I have it on my storm (got my invite) gotta tell ya dissapointed. If in compatable or out of compatble mode, its not designed for touch, you have to move your finger like its a track ball ..slow too. Takes a while to load. I am also let down by the fact they advertised that you would be able to get your voice mail sent as a text, but only if its through the google voice number.....or at least I think lol. Its ok just not quite ready yet

UPDATE:

I figured out the problem..
Under options in my phone I had it set to restrict my identity always.
Obviously this feature has to be disabled for Google voice to recognize your number.

BTW.. the app needs a little work as far as the touch screen but I am very happy with the ability to call through Google voice directly from my contact list!

I agree, I'm keeping my Youmail Visual Voicemail. It works perfectly, easy interface, transcriptions are dead on (I use the manual mode, not computer generated).
Besides, I don't want to be bothered telling everyone a new phone number. I'll keep my account open, I'm sure there will improvements in the future and let's see what comes up down the road.
