Thread: To QL or not to QL; that is my question.

Okay, I have been reading the reviews and talking (electronically) to some folks who swear by the QuickLaunch app. I am trying to decide if this is a "must have" app for me. Naturally, I thought I should humbly beg for the input of the knowledgeable mods and members at BBOS.

I run a modest set of apps as follows:

Aces Solitaire
Aerize Alerts
Aerize Optimizer
BBFileScout
BBOSLauncher
BBWeather
BeBerry (theme)
CaptureIt
Google Maps
QuickPull Pro
PhoneTweak
StormLevel
StopTilt
Swoosh Sudoku
UberTwitter
Viigo

The apps in red are those which really do not need to be "opened" per se; rather; they are embedded in menus or otherwise activate when and as needed.

Okay, here are my concerns. I am concerned that this is another one of those apps that becomes borderline OCD like MeterBerry. Also, I do not like the idea of paying for an app (yes, $4.99 is not that much--this is one of those annoying "principle" things) that, to a certain extent, duplicates the work of apps I already have (especially paid apps--again, principle, not cost). And while I do like a "clean" home screen (12 icons or less), with the BeBerry theme, most of my frequently used apps/launchers on on the bar/ribbon/OCD slot (messages, calendar, options, music player, BB Messenger, UberTwitter, BBOS Launcher and BBWeather, in that order).

On the flip side, here are my aspirations. I use teh Interwebz quite a bit (mainly GymTechnic every weekday morning at the gym and BBOS whenever I need to check on posts remotely). Also, I use the music player frequently (how many fracking clicks must one endure to play a song?!?!?!?!?!?!?). Plus, quicker access to pic folders would be nice.

I would like to know what people think about QL and whether they think I might find this app useful. If I can provide any additional information, please feel free to shoot me a reply, a PM or a BBM PIN.

I really don't use QL for actually launching apps. I mainly use it for resetting the device and screen captures. I've never been able to train myself to use it for its intended use.

most folks will say it's well worth it...but i'm not one of them.

Hands down one of the must have apps for the Blackberry. The new quicklaunch will allow you to eliminate capture it and stop tilt. So that is the first big bonus. I use it for all my net launchers which save the step having to open browser and pull up your bookmarks. I also program in my most emailed and called contacts. So once push of the button (I have it set to right conv key) and I can click call home, email blank etc

I totally agree with Bry. This is a must have for me. The only thing that is a pain in the BAL..... Uh man parts is when you do a wipe you have to reconfig list. Other than that I have everything busted into sub menus so only 4 buttons on my home screen

IMHO if you set it up right & give it some time to get use to you'll never look back.

Must have lou if you learn to use all it has to offer!!

again...i don't like this app...but have you noticed the backup you can do so you don't have to reconfigure?

medic use the back up feature and then when your new os is on just click restore and poof it is like they never went away

It stores you back up file on your SD card

I've not used QL, however reading this thread makes me want to. I may give it a shot.

Definitely worth it. It does sooo much more than just open apps, it pretty much does whatever you want it to do, with just 1 or 2 clicks of a button. Calls,emails,BBM's,web pages, etc. The list is endless. As of now, I wouldn't know what to do without it. Set it to a convenience key,and that's it. Everything your BB has to offer is right there,including all your device info with just one click. It's probably one of the most useful apps IMO. Good luck in your decision, but I bet you will not be disappointed if you decide to go for it!

Definitely will have to give weight to the fact that you are a metalhead and you use the term "brood" in your profile description!

You will be proud to know that my nine-year-old rocks out with me to "Run to the Hills," "Number of the Beast," "Diamonds and Rust," "Breaking the Law" and "Last in Line" (among other classics). He even knows how to do the two-handed horns (when double-Dio just is not enough horn power)!

You are correct sir I did delete it but the new options were just to much to pass up and not with the no themes for the Tour it is even more useful.
