Goolge Maps is killing BBmaps hands down. U can't get your location and no directions. Kind of defeats the purpose IMO. I to preserve memory I deleted BBmaps lol.

I have used Google Maps now for about a month, and overall like the way it works.
I have found its "current location" to be off at times (perhaps several blocks in some cases), and it is not the fastest application on the Blackberry Curve here - that's for sure. Assuming they improve on those 2 points, I think they have a winner.

Google Maps has been more helpful in Chicago.
I have found BBMaps to be more functional as an in-car GPS.
Given the ubiquitous nature of Google plug-ins, Google Maps seems to work better with other third party apps and sites.
It's still real to me, dammit! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvTNyKIGXiI

I just like the UI of the google maps better. BBmaps seems antiquated to me. However, BBmaps does work fine, gives you directions and location well enough. But IMO google maps for one has more eye candy to it, and two uses cell phone triangulation quite well (a feature lacking in the current version of BBmaps).
I know that RIM is making great attempts to improve this app (right Scottsman) so I will be curious to see what the next version looks like. But for right now I like GM.
Hands Down winner is Google Maps!
I would go with google maps by way of triangular location finder, traffic update, street location and just over all performance. There may be some memory leakage, but investment in quick pull or a memory saver program will help out. There are ways of going through memory leakage if that is your only disgruntle.

I am trying to make BB Maps work ever since I found out Verizon activated the GPS for free. But I have had nothing but problems with BB Maps. At first there was a software issue that only allowed me to see everything in Terraine mode. I could not see any streets at all. Once I deleted and reinstalled, that problem was corrected. But now I have problems with BB Maps hanging up. About every 3rd time I go to use it, the GPS won't work. The only thing I have found that fixes it is to pop out the battery to reset the HH. What a pain in the butt. Even when it works properly, the interface is not very user friendly. Google maps has BB Maps beat for now, except for the GPS functionality on Verizon. However the Triangulation feature is still pretty accurate and an awesome backup option. Bring it on, Scottsman!!!
Welcome to BBOS and thanks for your opinion. I definitely agree the Google maps is vastly superior to BBMaps (it's one of the first apps I delete off my phone). I am curious to see what the next gen brings but by then Google Maps will have released further versions so I just don't see BBMaps really being a competitior to Google unless they have done a 2,000% revamp. Prove me wrong RIM
I sure hope BBmaps gets that major revamp as well for what ever reason my carrier (telus) and google maps don't get along. I tried it just recently on my new tour but it still wonted get me closer then 1000 meters.
In the city that can be several blocksat:
Bellshare - Premium Blackberry Apps
Blackberry maps is also great for traffic alerts and especially here in LA it is much needed.
