For any of you who have joined the mobile social networking craze, foursquare has just updated their BlackBerry app to 1.9.9. What's new? Not a huge update, but it fixed some battery performance issues and enhanced the the application to take advantage of BlackBerry's Push technology.
Foursquare is like a mobile social networking app. As you run around your home town doing this or that, it allows you to "check in" to tell your friends where you are and the places you frequent. To me, it sounds a little like stalking, but for some it may be quite fun!
As you "explore" your city and check in, you can earn points and unlock badges for discovering new places, doing new things and meeting new people.
You can check-in at all kind of places - cafes, bars, restaurants, parks, homes, offices. If you frequent a certain place you can become the "Mayor" of that spot. This is where it can become challenging if another person also frequents that same place, he can "oust" you and become Mayor. Sounds a little like Chess perhaps?
If you are in need of something to keep you on the move, keep you occupied, or you just want to get more familiar with your area, check out foursquare! Who knows...you may find out about some interesting things around your home town!
