    BlackBerry Protect is Coming Soon

BlackBerry Protect which has been in beta over at the BlackBerry BetaZone for awhile now, looks like it may be getting closer to a full release and shed its beta status soon. On the BlackBerry website they are now promoting it as ‘Coming Soon’. This will be a free service available to BIS users only.

Some of the features of BlackBerry Protect include Wireless Backup (contacts, calendar, tasks, notes, SMS, browser bookmarks), Remote locking device, Startup Screen “Lost & Found”, Remote start ringing loud, and Remote wipe just to name a few. BlackBerry Protect really sounds like a great service to have for your BlackBerry.

I've been beta testing this for awhile now. It's a cool feature to have for your BB I have barely used it though. Never had a reason too so I guess it's a good thing.

I also agree with Hodges. On top of the usability it has a nice design interface as well. I wonder if they will continue to add more features.

I've been using SmrtGuard which I do believe was the birth of this concept. It takes up a very small part of your memory and is a godsend. I've had to use the remote wipe once as someone thought they needed my BB more than I did. In a nutshell, work was in a panic, totally understandable until remote wipe was activated.

The remote backup and restore is also a very handy tool, particularly if your an operating system junkie and don't have the latest backup files...don't ask. You can set your backup option for a daily run and it's always there...really nice for the contacts list. With over 1400 contacts, business and personal, retyping is not an option.

Used Smrt guard, but never tried the remote wipe seeing I never needed to. But seeing people have used it it must work.
Wow, 1400? No retype is no option
Id like to compare, but have to say I favour RIM's own app over third party.

I'm waiting for RIM to release it. I have 4 more months on my subscription with SmrtGuard so this might come out just in time so I don't have to renew
