App World Breaks the 10,000 App Mark

According to Research In Motion's twitter account (@BlackBerry) Tuesday, they have reached "10,000 apps strong and growing".

It's not clear if themes were in the final count or not, but this number still pales in comparison to the sheer number of apps that are currently available in the Android and iPhone storefronts. Certainty this does mark a major milestone for RIM. I'm sure they know there is quite a road ahead of them to catch up to their competitors.

With the release of BlackBerry 6, the BlackBerry Developer Conference right around the corner, and some new development tools like dragonRAD (a new development platform) to inspire developers, we could see many new apps added in the near future. Also, with the recently acquired Cellmania (a mobile storefront operator) RIM has a good chance to expand their BlackBerry App World distribution in the future.

How many apps do you think BlackBerry App World will have this time next year?

I think App World will have 25k+ by next year.

Also to clarify about the number of apps. The main reason App World is and always will be lower in number to App Store and Android Market is very simple. RIM is stricker with what apps they allow on App World. They are stricker in quality and qaunitity. Ever notice how App Store has like 20-30 different apps that do the same Flipping thing?? RIM does not allow that! They cut that down to 10ish unless its something big like Twitter Clients or Music apps... That is why App World is 10K strong and App Store and Android Market has all that extra nonsence...
