Starbucks Adds BlackBerry App to its Menu
Following on the success of the Starbucks card, which had a stellar year claiming about one fifth of purchases using it, you will now be able to track your card information, reload your Starbucks card and use your BlackBerry to pay for Java at some stores.
If you have the app on your BlackBerry you will be able to pay for your items with your phone at Starbucks cafes in over 1,000 Target stores across the Nation and 16 Starbucks stores (8 of which are in Seattle, duh?). These stores are equipped with special scanners to read the code on your BlackBerry Smartphone.
Although the iPhone had an app for that about a year ago, BlackBerry users get a brand new store mapping feature that will see the iPhone at a later date. You may see the app down the road for Windows Mobile and Android, but BlackBerry has been the most requested device, insisted Starbucks manager of Card Innovation, Chuck Davidson.
Starbucks is trending towards people using their phones to pay because they never leave home without them.
The app is currently available for the following devices:
8800, 8820; Bold 9000, 9650, 9700; Curve 8300, 8310, 8320, 8330, 8350i, 8520, 8530, 8900; Storm 9530; Storm2 9550; and Tour 9630
