    GiveMeYourJad - JAD download sotfware

    Hi everybody

I'm french so excuse my poor english
I just wanted to introduce you my new Software: GiveMeYourJad.

It's a free application which help you to download an application when you just have its OTA link.
It downloads the JAD file in your computer, then the COD and Jar files described in the JAD file and create the Alx file.
After you just have to load the application with Desktop Manager or the apploader.

I created this software because I manage my BB applications with my computer and not directly with my phone.

    Its advantages:
    - Choice of the directory where are installed all your applications
    - You can apply proxy parameters if you need one to connect to internet
    - At the end of the download, a summary is displayed
    - You can open the application directory on single click.
    - Alx file creation at the end of the dowload
    - you can launch the RIM apploader to load the application on your phone
    - langage selection available

I hope you will use it.

If you are interested, you can download the software on the web site WizzzDeveloppement

If I'm reading this right, there are going to be quite a few pi$$ed off developers and theme builders out there. Particularly the theme builders, as it now gives anyone the option of downloading the theme and then having the ability of modifying or changing at will. OTA is there to protect the theme or app from others having access to it with the cod and alx files....correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

In fact some application are available on the web with only JAD url.

For example mobilhand send you an email with the jad url. After that you can instal the application directly with your BB.

But if you want dowload on your computer before install it, you can't!!

Maybe some developpers "protect" your application like that but I dont' think it's a law .

If they want correctly protect their application, they have to crypted their.

It's the theme builders I'm particularly thinking about. Once you have the cod and alx file, you now have open access to the theme. I don't believe these can be encrypted.

There are some fantastic theme builders out there and as a result of this program you may see fewer themes. Whats to stop someone from downloading the cod and alx files then just distributing the entire file free of charge.

Joshjamie, you do make a good point. But, I've been doing this for a LONG time. Download the .jad file, open it in notepad, read every .cod it requires (since it's OTA every one is there to download), download every .cod, convert the .jad to .alx. My process is the same as his programs, except his program cuts out all of the hard parts.

A cod file is a compressed code file. Meaning, even if you have it on your PC (Using this program or my method) you still can't get into it. If you DO get into it, then it breaks the signature that RIM has provided for that app, which will NOT allow you to redistribute it with your edits.

OTA does not provide any security for someone who knows the very basics of how OTA essentially works. It's VERY easy to download the files from an unsecured source, and redistribute them. A theme has no security what-so-ever. Once it gets released, it's available to everyone, simply because we can RIP the cod files off of the phone with bbsak.

All in all, if this program is getting bashed, then we need to bash the numerous other programs that allow you to rip .cod files from your phone and the internet as well. What most of us developers have on our side is that the common phone user doesn't know how to rip cod's from the internet/our phone, so it's of no worry generally.

I would like to chime in. This program has helped me a great deal. I understand the desire for people to want to protect their intellectual property, and using this program, I would NEVER modify ANY aspect of the app.

Where it helps me is I am one of the BES admins at my office and the other admin and myself want to try and begin to standardize some of our apps (BBM is a PRIME example. Some are using 4.7, some 5.0.0.33, x.57, x.66, 5.0.1.38) Using this software, I can get the necessary files and load the latest and greatest BBM on our BES and make sure all users are running the same version. We all have noticed the only way to update BBM lately is only via OTA.

So far no issues. It took me a round or two to understand what the program was looking for. Example. To download the latest BBM, we go to www.blackberry.com/messenger So I tried that, but it failed. Once I realized the software was looking for the actual "jad file", oh, then it worked perfectly.

Oh, one hiccup, if it can be fixed, I went to a website on my desktop and copied the link address. I went to "GiveMeYourJad" and right clicked in the "Url" entry and i did not get the usual Windows option list for "Paste". Ctrl+V still worked to paste the URL in, but just curious if the right click can be added.
