Google Maps makes the jump to 4.4

Just a few days ago, we reported that Google maps would update to 4.4. Well, the update has quietly gone live. The folks at the big G have given Maps a few new features, most noticeable, is the Places feature. Turning your GPS enabled BlackBerry into a local information powerhouse, and enabling one of the fastest and easiest ways to search for a hot club, or a cool restaurant

Thanks for the update! Nice find! It loaded really fast and accurately while inside at home. Have not taken it out and about yet to check other "Places" feature outside of my home area.

Tried to get new version with home PC by clicking on BBOS.com, but it doesn't work. Says file cannot be opened with Windows.

I also tried m.google.com, but the download is the same version I already have which is 4.2

Go to BBOS on your BB & click on the link. It worked for me.

gmaps 4.4 seems sluggish compared to 4.2 - is it compatible with Storm? I may stick with 4.2 until Google officially release new version.

Am I the only one that doesn't notice any difference from 4.2? Except that it does not show my (nearly) exact location, instead my location within 2700 meters. Very slow and I still have yet to see this new Places feature, everything is the same to me....?

My location is way more accurate in this version then last.. I haven't used it that much yet but so far I haven't had any issues yet.. I haven't tried the places feature yet.
