Borders makes it's eBook Store debut! Launches eReader for BlackBerry

Borders has just launched their free eBook Store. Starting tomorrow, any U.S. resident can download the eReader app and receive 5 free books! These free top-selling books include: Frankenstein by Dean Koontz, One Shot by Lee Child, The Alchemyst by Michael Scott, Julia Child’s Kitchen Wisdom and Master your Metabolism by Jillian Michaels. Better act fast, the deal ends on late Sunday evening. Of course, there is always a catch. I went to download the app on my Storm2 (this was before I knew about the weekend deal), and little to my surprise, my device was not compatible. Looks like you need to be rockin a BlackBerry Bold 9000 on OS 4.6, 9700 on 5.0, Curve on 4.5 and 4.6, 8500 on 5.0 and Tour on 4.7. A free Borders.com account is also needed. If you want to pick this up now, and own one of the above devices, it is available for download today. Below are a list of features that the app allows you to do. Click the jump using your BlackBerry Browser to download via OTA.

    • browse and buy eBooks at Borders.com, where you'll find over a million titles,
including a generous selection of free books
    • search by title, author, topic, or keyword
    • make quick and easy purchases
    • access your eBook Library
    • download eBooks for offline reading
    • enjoy automatic bookmarking, print quality resolution, smooth transitions between
pages and chapters, and customized fonts and type sizes

This app is only good if you have a US address and credit card.
You need to set up an account with Borders which is easy enough but to download even any free books it needs your billing details which must be in the US>

If you have set up an account, thee is no option to delete the account.
I emailed customer support after I realised I could not use it and they can not even delete the account

We can't cancel the account but we can disable it. Please reply to this e-mail if you'd like us to do that.

Borders.com accepts the following payment methods:

    Borders Gift Cards
    Visa
    MasterCard
    Discover
    American Express
Visa & Mastercard branded debit cards
    Bill Me Later.
