Chat feature coming to facebook v1.8 beta for BlackBerry?

There have been rumors floating around in the past that the BlackBerry facebook app would aquire the chat feature. This sounds promising if the rumor becomes true as we have heard from users of the facebook v1.8 beta that the app is much improved from the current official release.

Although, reports on v1.8 say there isn't a chat feature, but that the overall experience is much faster. Now, it seems that facebook has enabled it on their end to allow the facebook Chat on a BlackBerry. There have been third-party apps that allow you to do facebook Chat, however, this appears to be for the official facebook app that is developed by RIM.

We're hoping that we will see this feature in v1.8 even though reports suggest otherwise. Either way, it is a good sign that facebook has taken the initiative to get their backend setup in preparation.

I heard the same thing, but also that it has been fixed. I wish I was one of the beta testers.

    Terrific news my friend.
Does anyone know how soon we can expect it to roll out? Hopefully when the official update is released it won't be such a hassle to use Facebook. The website is blocked here at work so I have to use my BlackBerry to access FB. I usually check FB on my itouch on the nights I listen to an audiobook at bedtime. No problems with the itouch app at all. I hope the BB app is at least as smooth.
It is odd that there are notifications (etc) I get there that I don't receive with the BB app. Some days I get them on the BB others I don't.

FB mobile web is OK but I would rather use the application for quick viewing of notifications and requests.
