If one is using the contact sync via BIS is it necessary to have the Google Sync app?

I've been having problems with GS then I found a thread regarding syncing with my BIS account.
Run the new email set up wizard, log in, and choose to edit your gmail address. Scroll down to sync options and select. if there is an option to sync contacts, check the box and reenter your password in the log in information option, then select save at the bottom of the screen.
At this point, if the contacts option is showing on your email setup, then Google sync is duplicating native features. Go ahead and delete it.
If you're only using the google sync app for contacts, you can just sync thru bis. I use google sync for my calendars.
