Carbonite introduces Backup Service for BlackBerry

Carbonite, a leading provider of online backup, today introduced a new mobile application for BlackBerry smartphone users that provides access to their backed up files anywhere, anytime directly on their BlackBerry phone.

Carbonite subscribers who download the Carbonite application for BlackBerry smartphones will be able to access the following features:
    • Browse: Carbonite customers can see files on their BlackBerry smartphone arranged exactly as they are on their computer(s)
    • View: File types including PDFs, images, audio and video files, Excel files and Word documents, can be downloaded and opened anywhere and at anytime on a BlackBerry smartphone.
    • Share: Files backed up with Carbonite can be attached and emailed easily from a BlackBerry smartphone.

"We know our customers are constantly on-the-go and have found great value in quickly being able to access their files," said Carbonite CEO and co-founder David Friend. "Many Carbonite subscribers are small businesses who use the standard Carbonite product or Carbonite Pro, which we debuted earlier this year. Many of these business users rely on their BlackBerry smartphones and now will not only be able to access e-mail and the Web, but also all of their invaluable files they have backed up. The Carbonite application for BlackBerry smartphones continues our commitment to simplicity. With just a few clicks on their BlackBerry phone, a Carbonite subscriber can easily find an invoice from their computer and e-mail it to a customer or view photos they have backed up."

The Carbonite application for BlackBerry smartphones supports BlackBerry smartphones running OS 4.6.1 and with a screen resolution of 240x320 and higher, including the following devices:
    • Pearl Flip 8230
    • Curve 8300, 8500, and 8900 Series
    • Bold 9000
    • Tour 9600 series

Carbonite online backup installs with just a few clicks and runs quietly in the background, continually backing up the irreplaceable files on a computer. For $54.95 per year, Carbonite subscribers get unlimited backup space. For new customers interested in testing Carbonite's award-winning online backup service, a free 15-day trial of Carbonite is available at :

From your BlackBerry...click the link in News Article, or go to Carbonite.com/BlackBerry using your BlackBerry browser. In the upper right of screen there is a green box with a button that says "Start Your Free Trial"...click that. Then there is a box on the right with info you must fill in to register, and an orange box to "Start Your Free Trial".

If you click the link from your PC, on the bottom right is a green box..."Start Your FREE Trial"...does the same thing.

    Works for me...

I'm just trying to download the app,as I already have an account. Looking at their web site it says you must have the os 4.6.1 and I am using a 5.0 os, maybe that's why I'm having difficulty. Or maybe I'm just having some kind of brain spasm and overlooking something simple. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks.

It means you need 4.6.1 or higher...that's what their press release said.

I would still download the 15 day free trial and then contact their customer service dept....or the other way around.

    I got on their site...

If you click the BUY button on the top of their screen, it takes you to a purchase screen, and a place to "click" existing customer.

The following is what I got back from Carbonite converning my difficulty downloading this app. I have the Tour 9630 running a 5.0 os. I hope this helps anyone else having difficulty:
Sorry for the confusion. Your BlackBerry model and OS is not supported yet. We support the following BlackBerry® smartphones running OS 4.6.1: Pearl Flip 8230, Curve 8300/8500/8900 Series, Bold 9000, and Tour 9600. If you'd like to be notified when it will be supported, please send an email to blackberry@carbonite.com. Thanks, Tom
