All you golfers out there, you have to check this one out !! A FREE golf GPS app from Swing by Swing is now available for your BlackBerry.

How cool is this ?!? I found this on-line and the following information comes directly from Swing by Swing's website.

"Next time you're on the golf course, you can use your mobile phone to see a satellite photo of the obstacles in your way, the green, and exact distances to everything. Your location is always shown at the bottom of the screen, and the green is always at the top.

Simply touch the screen to view the distance from to the selected point. You'll also see the distance from that point to the green. This information helps you make smart club decisions.

This application supports the following BlackBerry devices: Pearl, Pearl Flip, Curve, Bold, and the Storm. When you visit their website to download this you will notice that 5.0 OS is not mentioned. Since I am a golfer, I loaded this on my Storm2. I am running 5.0.0.607 and it loaded, and operated just fine. Of course it's late at night, and I am not on a golf course, it still listed my local courses. I clicked on my favorite, and I saw hole #1, a big old par 5 from an aerial view, and I thought ...WOW !! Obviously I cannot attest to the actual workings of this app...but I swear it looks promising, and it's FREE !!

Load this on your BB !! You now have a reason, (just in case you needed one), to hit the links. I can't wait to try it !!

Where abouts are you located, I checked and all the local courses are mapped and have found a few through search that i've used in Ontario.

I live in western mass and found that most of the course I play aren't mapped. The expensive courses are all mapped but the mid range courses are only partially done.

Has anybody tried to map a course, I think you only mark where the tees are but I'm not sure. It will be interesting to try out.

Live in Eastern Mass and most of the private courses are not mapped. Also takes a lot of memory. Great idea though

I just mapped a course and it was very easy. The hardest part was entering all the score card information. If you had an actual score card from the course it would go very quickly. You basically enter the distance from the mena tees, the what par from a scorecard then you just click on the map where the blue tees are and where the green is. It maybe took me 5 min.

Seems like this one would be lacking. I use BBGPSGolf (free). The website is bbgpsgolf.com. Users add to a database of mapped courses (which are mapped through Google or Bing maps). So if yours isn't on there, then map it yourself. Or edit the current mapping. All tutorials are on the site.

It allows you to map several points on a hole with descriptions, not just front, middle, back of green. It also keeps score for up to 4 people. As well as keep stats for 1 person (FIR, GIR, Putts, Hazard Saves, etc.).

The creator keeps taking suggestions and updates it periodically. Check it out. I've used it for the past 2 seasons.
