Isn’t it great that work colleagues and business associates can send you documents straight to your Blackberry smartphone? You can even view your airline boarding pass on your smartphone, but what if you could print up a copy as well while you were on your way to the airport?
Now you can with Cortado Workplace, a new free BlackBerry (and iPhone) app from ThinPrint AG.
The app lets users store e-mail, e-mail attachments, computer files and photos of documents in the company’s cloud server, and then print them from their smartphone to a printer that is on a local wireless network.
1 GB free online storage space.
Web Explorer for managing files from a PC or notebook
Puts documents and files at your fingertips anytime and anywhere.
Print directly from your BlackBerry smartphone.
Workplace file manager for your BlackBerry smartphone
Pictures of documents taken with your smartphone can also be turned into PDF files for storage, e-mailing or printing. The company offers 1 gigabyte of free storage, and each file can be a maximum of 3 megabytes. Later in the year (2010), the company intends to offer a fee-based upgrade without the file size limits and with much larger cloud storage.
It could be useful, for instance, to print a document sent by a colleague at a hotel’s networked printer, or your running late for drinks with friends because you are waiting for that important document. Now there is no need to wait because once you have received it you can use any wireless networked printer to print it. Or you can print a file received on your Blackberry without having to boot up your home computer. And procrastinators can rejoice: you can even print up that business presentation in your client’s lobby just seconds before you’re ready to start the meeting.
Not intuitive and little instructions. Allows access to everything on your phone. Deleted shortly after installed. Not my cup of tea.
These are the instructions from Cortado and remember your controling it so Im a little unsure what you mean when you say it allows access to everything on your phone? Let me (and everyone else) know please.
How it works
Find below a quick guide to get started with Cortado Workplace.
After installing you will find the application “Cortado Workplace” in the main menu of your BlackBerry smartphone.
Open Cortado Workplace via its application icon. When you use Cortado Workplace for the first time, you will be prompted to register.
Open the WORKPLACE drive and then the default folder "myDocuments" to access all folders and files that are stored on your Cortado Workplace.
To display subfolders of a directory, select the EXPAND option; for displaying files, use the OPEN option.
Manage your folders via options, such as NEW FOLDER, RENAME and DELETE.
After selecting a file, following options are offered1:
SEND AS E-MAIL: Send documents as e-mail attachment.
To manage your files, options as CUT, COPY, PASTE, RENAME, SORT and DELETE are available.
After selecting PRINT, the options Bluetooth Printers and WiFi Printers will be displayed.
If you want to use a Bluetooth printer, select the relevant printer and then a suitable printer type.
If you want to use a WiFi printer, enter the IP address of the relevant printer.
The Cortado Printer Locator helps you detect the IP address of printers in your corporate WiFi network.
Open your e-mail program to use following options:
PRINT: Print your e-mail texts and attachments via Bluetooth and WiFi printers.
SEND TO WORKPLACE: Save e-mail texts and attachments from your inbox to Cortado Workplace.
Open the Cortado settings via CORTADO CLIENT in the BlackBerry options. Here you will find settings such as:
SHOW INFO LINE: Define if file information such as file size are to be displayed.
PRINT MAIL DETAILS: The sender, recipient or cc recipient(s), and subject of an e-mail will also be printed.
PRINTER FAVORITES: Via EDIT you can set up preferred Bluetooth and WiFi printers. Cortado Workplace on the PC
Use the link www.cortado.com/myworkplace to access Cortado Workplace via Internet on your PC. The comfortable web interface enables you to manage your folders and files.
EDIT* I have installed this on my 9500 (obviously no WiFi), but my printer does have bluetooth.
It takes a little while to register and log in but the upload of files is very quick from my PC (work station) and after a refresh in the BB I can see the files. Because its using bluetooth to send the data to my printer, it is a little slow, but it did work no problems.
I like it and it reminds me of Glide, an app I reviewed before I became staff on
That one works in much the same way, without the printer but you get 30Gb free.
