Blackberry Messenger Links with Facebook using 2D Barcode
Yesterday, Research In Motion hinted at some up coming changes for their Blackberry Messenger application. They wanted to make sure that everyone was using Blackberry Messenger version 5.0.0.57 and said you would notice the changes very soon. It was also said that you would not need to upgrade your BBM to see the changes.
The first change is here. Well, this is not really much of a change however it is something. Using your Blackberry Messenger Device PIN, you can now create custom 2D Barcodes using a new Blackberry Messenger Barcode Facebook application. To do this you must have a facebook and log into it. Then, using the new 2D Barcode designer you can color code these barcodes and customize them to meet your personal styles. Then generate your fully colored and customized BBM barcode after which you could place it into your facebook. NO MORE BLACK AND WHITE!
After testing this new application on facebook, I have found that there is a way to email the barcode to yourself and NOT have to put it on facebook. Essentially you could go their to create your custom barcode and then put that code onto any website, blog, Twitter, LinkedIN other then facebook.
I am not sure this is something that we all were expecting as one of the new features RIM had spoken of, but it is kinda cool. Check it out and be sure to let us know what you think. Do you like it? Were you expecting this?
