Thread: Charged for Tethering?

I think i proposed this question in the wrong thread, i put it in the thread where i hope to win a copy of Tether, so i will post it here. Recently a friend of mine went to Telus to purchase a new BB and asked about using it as the Modem for his laptop. They told him that it would have that ability but they would charge him extra to do it. He also found that Bell and Rogers, were currently not charging for using it that way. Now other than the data usage how would they know he had tethered his phone? does the tether app allow one to do this without the service provider knowing?

To answer your question, your carrier in somewhat monitoring your data consumption so with a piece of software like Tether a carrier could charge you for that data.

Here is Tether's Terms of Service on the subject of data consumption on your carriers network.

Allocation of Risk. YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU MAY INCUR ADDITIONAL CARRIER COSTS, AND THAT YOUR PLAN MAY BE TERMINATED BY YOUR CARRIER FOR VIOLATION OF YOUR CARRIER’S FAIR USE POLICY OR TERMS OF SERVICE.

I am usion tether and have been for a while. I a. Usually on it for 3 or 4 hrs at a time. My provider is verizon and as long as you don't go over your data usage plan you shouldn't have an issue.no extra cost. You can call verizon and they would be happy to charge you $30 a month to have there package but why when you already pay them that for the
