Thread: Social Beat Pushed to All Verizon BlackBerry Users

Social Beat is a social lifeline for any Verizon customer that is looking to keep up to date with their social networking circle and more. Social Beat connects you to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Gmail, Google Talk and over 50 news, sports & entertainments feeds. What's so nice about this app is how it beautifully combines all these networks and news information on an easy to use interface.

Social Beat is great for anyone who is always staying up to date with their social network and the news. I myself am always looking to stay up to date with the latest news from CNN and my Twitter/FB friends. You can view Twitter, Facebook, etc in their separate tab, or you can also view all of your networks and RSS feeds in what they call My Stream. The only negative that I feel needs to be pointed out is the typing lag.

Social Beat was previously only available for the Curve 8530 on Verizon, but is now being pushed to all Verizon BlackBerry users including the Storm 9550. If you don't see the Social beat icon, try resending your service books.

looks like theres only a handful of RSS feeds you can subscribe to, I was hoping this would be along the lines of the app "Unread" where I can get ALL of my Google Reader feeds, but doesnt appear to be the case

I kinda was hoping for that also. So far it looks like a substantial amount of feeds...but certainly limited.

Nothing beats "Unread". It's better than the mobile Google reader.

does this app offer on screen notifications on the home screen......the little tiny icons when a new mail comes in

I have yet to have Social Beat pushed to my device and I have resent my service books... maybe it will come some time soon. I definitely want to try this app. It looks pretty cool

does this use the internet or text to send mail, since it ask for your phone number

i lied... it was hiding in my applications folder. so if anyone else can't find it, look there first!

i haven't used it yet, but if its like other apps it should use the internet. many apps that go on your phone ask for the number for one reason or another.

It has not been pushed to me yet. I've resent books and rebooted too. Maybe its taking a while to push to everyone. I'd like to try it since SocialScope never sent an invite.

If you still can't find it, they pushed it to the APPLICATIONS FOLDER as someone mentioned above.

As far as functionality is concerned, there are a few things that bother me...first, the notification still stays "starred" next to the service icon within the program even after checking from the "My Stream" page. Secondly, I use BerryBuzz on my storm 9530 and I cannot change the notification LED type for the program. I too was trying to get SocialScope, and have been for months now. It seems that Social Beat is very similar to it though.

I personally think this pushed app is horribel...

Unless they add more gadgets and options it is a waste...

It is no where as useful as the actual applications that are dedicated to these social networks...

wish they would have never pushed it on us..

In some ways, I have to agree with you. It would be nice if the carriers would stop pushing content that just adds more to the mess already not fixed on the devices. On the other hand, it is nice to get new stuff without even asking for it. I just wish there was an easy way to delete some of it, and reject pushes I don't want.

For me it was under the downloads folder after I had restarted my phone.
The UI seems pretty decent and I like that it's by iskoot. It isn't the worst thing that vzw has pushed to us.

So even if it was pushed to us, its just a browser link to download, and I can just hide it without actually installing it right? I see the icon and it looks tempting, but I don't see it on my applications list. I'd just really would hate to have to shrink my OS with out upgrading it. I always loose my paid apps. Hmmmmmm?
