Twitter App for Blackberry - Comments and Suggestions

New Twitter app has been out for a few days now as a "Private Beta", and the "Public Beta" is on its way. Before RIM launches its Public Beta they would like to get a feel for the original product first, hopefully to try and correct somethings before the next release. Today at work (I wok for AT&T), I was visited by a RIM Rep. She asked me what I thought of the new Twitter app. So I gave her a few tips and things I would like to see changed. I then asked her what she thought about polling the Blackberry Community, she loved the idea as they need more info.

That's where you come in. I gave her the link to the discussion board below so that she can read though and collect feedback for RIM. They said they would love to hear what the BBOS members had to say about Twitter for Blackberry. So lets give her the feedback RIM so desperatly neeeds. I don't know about you guys, but I am excited to know that RIM will actually be reading this thread!!!

Here's my tip: Get the functionality of Ubertwitter, and the UI of SocialScope, and you got a winner!

I haven't tried the T4BB app yet, but it sounds like the only functions it offers are those available when using the website. The reason people love apps like Ubertwitter so much is because they offer way more functionality than the Twitter website (such as auto complete for friends names and 'reply all', just to name a couple).

A huge plus that this app seems to offer though is the way it is integrated with everything else - BBM, Message folder, ect...

It will be interesting to see if they really do follow this thread and if they respond to any of the suggestions or even provide release date info and such.

Maybe they are really awesome and will shoot out a few invite codes on here to those who give out good ideas???! Good way to find good beta testers if you ask me!

I sent several comments via e-mail.
I think they can really build this app up to be a great one, especially if they work on the full integration with BBM groups and or contacts.
Other stuff like multiple accounts, facebook integration, font size selection, bubble or block tweet selection, retweet from an open message, integration of @replies and direct messages in main timeline, etc were also suggested.

I want to be able to retweet my friends even if they're private and add a comment to that retweet. I don't like that I have to click on public profiles twice to retweet what they say and still not able to add to that retweet. I need to get my pics on my tweets in portrait view, not happening now. Don't like that I have to scroll to get to every menu option like, home, @ replies, update, add pic when you should only have to do that when you hit the menu bb button. Don't know if this is part of the beta version, but I only see two tweets at a time and have too scroll to continue to see more. I also am not liking that the keyboard option is not available to hide when you first enter the app, and that's been every time you go in and out of it. It gives you the option once you send a new tweet. On Ubertwiter you can see what apps your friends are tweeting from and on blackberry twitter app, you have to click on their tweet to see that, and I like that on ubertwitter. I dont see an exit button, how do I stop it from continuing to run?
I do like the look of it, it has potential. I like that it integrates with bbm, web pages are able to be tweeted. I love the conversation part of it also, it lets you see what was replied to. I am wanting RIM to be my #1 twitter app, since I am a blackberry user!! I can be hooked with these few fixes. Thanks!!
update:: I see where you can rt without clicking 2x on public profiles.

I have the app and really like it. I love the UI. I would like to see a friend picker option ( like the one in UberTwitter and SocialScope) also push @replies, or at least get notified when I receive on.

I really like the UI. Don't mess with that. But the app is very slow due to icons not caching and @mentions not cached. For me, fix the speed problems and add some basic functions others have mentioned. Then you can compete with the 3rd party clients.

The app itself is not that nice for me, i love the integration, but reading twits on it kinda ... Sucks :p

And all that ui over the twits should be hideable, look at ubertwitter/socialscope/twitgenius. You can see 3 or more twits onscreen, on the official app there is too much clutter above the twits, it gets hard to know where you left reading before, etc

I agree the all the previous posts! @ mention notify and integration (will a different color background or font) would be awesome!

Also, the same Twitpic integration with yfrog and tweetphoto as they are just as popular

Speed. Speed. More speed. The UI is fantastic, but it takes an incredibly long time to load. Other clients are able to load and post before the timeline even refreshes in this app.

I sent a few in by email but:

1) Integrate new tweets with "push" technology and put those tweets right in my inbox. The biggest down side to all other twitter clients is that it only gets tweet every X amount of time. Push them to me, that will set this app apart from every other app out there(or at least make it an option to). Yes that even means across platforms (hint hint iPhone).

P.S. MAKE MORE APPS AROUND PUSH TECHNOLOGY!!!!!





2) Add contacts twitter account to address book.
3)Speed is a must.
4)Look at the new ubertwitter, they have a very nice set up going.


5) Put the little twitter bird in the notification area!!!! That would be sweet!

Here's what i think about Twitter For Blackberry :
When i got the invitation code and saw the pic of it..i was thinking..hey..this could be a good app...and after i download it..yeah it is..
The first impression i got is that..the UI is nice..i love the UI that was put on T4BB,
after a few minutes playing with the app..i got the feeling this app is gonna be great...
but there are a few things that had to be fix in my opinion :
1.) Sometimes it's kinda laggy when we refresh to load a new tweet on the app and it will continue when we type to reply or compose a direct message
2.) RIM needs to made the ReTweet option like Uber did, so users can pick how they want to ReTweet things up..not everyone like the idea of the new ReTweet things IMO..CMIIW
3.) RIM should add the exit button on the app cause the only way to make the app stop is to hit the log out option ( i guess RIM did this to make the app same with Facebook for Blackberry <-- no exit either only logout option to stop the app..)
4.) RIM should added the friend picker / auto complete option like uber and socialscope did..cause many users need the autopicker to type their friends name easier on the app.. ( sometimes it's hard to remember all our friends name right ? i mean..how they type their id on twitter sometimes kinda hard to remember ) :bigeyes:
5.) RIM should put the push @ mention too..RIM did a great job on pushing DM to the messages and notify if we got a new DM or a new tweet..but it's going to be better if RIM also add the push @ mention and notify us when there are a new @ reply too.

Nevertheless..overall i love the twitter app for Blackberry..:07: :07:
and hope they listen to my opinion and suggestion up there..
it would be really great if they do listen to us users.
cause everyone have a different needs and point of view in what they needed on Twitter app.

Let's hope the update for the app comes soon :D

I also love Twitter App for Blackberry. Even though it's sometimes laggy, I just love tweeting using this app. I like Uber too, but there's something in this app that makes me want to tweet and tweet =)

I agree with jetshinoda.

-Push the @ mention in the inbox
-Ability to edit Retweets
-It's also nice if RIM would add twitlonger. So that the tweet won't be limited to just 160 characters.
-Friend picker like UT. Since I can't memorize some of their usernames. I might spell it incorrectly.
-Connecting twitter accounts to contacts. =D
-Changing layout style would be cool too. Like bubble or bar. It would be cooler if they add something -different and new =)
-Also, viewing all photos/videos within the app.
-Maybe also add an option to change font size.

Can't wait for the next update! I just love this app! <3

I agree too with auto picker..hard to remember everyone I am following to tweet them. Push..push..push...we want it, we need it, we deserve it. RIM NEEDS to get their name back in the game, we all love FB, but know it's far behind the iphone app..we love out ? so step up the game & make us a #1 twitter app & make us ? users PROUD again for being a RIM ? owner!!

Any Twitter app MUST support multiple twitter accounts. Seriously!

Way too slow for my liking, not enough features.

BB have taken like forever to release this as a beta, lets hope they hear us and resolve issues prior to official launch!

Thanks for the opportunity to provide input. I use Ubertwitter as my main Twitter app. I miss the friend picker funtion. I miss twitlonger support. There should be less UI covering the screen, have it pop up when you get to the top of your timeline! How about picture previews from all the different photo services, not just twitpic? I should be able to follow a user from my timeline by hovering over their name and pressing the menu key. I keep getting lost in my timeline when I switch back and forth between apps.
I Really want this to become my only Twitter app. It just needs a little more work. As it is I use it every day.

I'm sure what I have for recommendations has already been covered, but crowdstorming needs input...

The option to decrease the font size would be nice.
Retweeting is a pain, due to not having an option within a current tweet.
I like how it displays a small map of the twits location, but it doesnt update the location of my tweets... Not that I could tell anyways.
Tweet caching needs to be added, as it is too damn slow to grab all the tweets again.
The font on in the context menu gets smaller under the hi-lite. Thats lame.
Speed up the animations a smidge, it's too slow.

Oh, and I would like to be able to update my profile and avatar from within the app.
