Thread: PageOnce Personal Assistant 2.5 with push notifications released

The PageOnce app for BlackBerry is intended to display financial data on your mobile device, allowing you to get your financial account transaction history organized by date, including the purchase amount and merchant, summary views of credit card balances with available credit tracking and a financial balances summary page that allows you to view all your finances at a glance. As of today, the new 2.5 assistant has just been released introducing push notifications to alert you about you accounts and transactions without having to run the app in the background.

I tried the original version of PageOnce and was not impressed. After putting way too much of my personal information out there, PageOnce could not access the one or two key accounts that I really needed. Website kept saying be patient. Emails, if they were answered, just said be patient- your young- we'll get to it. Personally, I would not go down that road again. I deleted my account and it can stay deleted!

I tired the free mobile minute tracker. It was ok, it was super slow at loading and the UI was terribly slow on my BB Storm1.
Along came the the discounted premium assistant. I thought I'd give it a try and seeing hows its the premium and it was on sale. TERRIBLE!, the UI is horrible for the Storm1. Slow, slow boot times, terrible scrolling. In a nut shell I would totally stay clear from this company and any of there other apps. At least for the STORM.

Is it really that bad? If I read all the features:
-Keep track of frequent flyer miles, travel schedules, and flight information
-Track cell phone minute usage and your bill!
-Monitor all your bills and their due dates
-Guard yourself against fraudulent activity
-View your Netflix queue, eBay bids, and your social networking sites!

...it sounds like a keeper, but if I read your feedback, it sounds as if I should keep my fingers far away from it

I've been using the app for the last version or two, and generally i like it. I am downloading the new version as I type.. I am curios to see how they utilize their new "push notifications" (previously I got them by email)

In the past it is a little slow on updating information and often doesn't always do it automatically, but there is a menu option to force updates. Refreshing the info does take a little bit, but this is not the fault of pageonce.. it is the underlying data service that they use (..the same one used by mint.com; it has similar "issues").

A small amount of patience, and the convenience of the app more than makes up for it... I usually open it up, hit the update button, and then switch over to read email, etc while it updates.

It also provides account notifications... just a few days ago it notified me that my verizon account was over my alloted minutes. I was able to upgrade my plan before the end of my billing cycle (tomarrow), and according to verizons website I saved myself about $60. That alone makes it worth having!

As far as bank accounts go, I use a small local community credit union.. I was quite suprised to find full support for my savings, checking/debit, and line of credit. I can also track all of my 401k accounts which are at another small regional (not national) institution.

..appearently they just passed 1 million users; surely it can't be all that bad!

In all fairness, I tried an earlier paid version. I did not like it and cut my losses. My credit union was listed and I was able to set-up the account, but it was all downhill from there. Each and every time I tried to access the account to view balances or transfer money it would tell me that they were having an issue and were aware of it. They were working on it so don't bother us. If I did send them a note, they rarely responded. I went through the same issue with the Gas & Electric company for like 150+ days as I recall. I found it less frustrating to just use the browser.

i use this app sometimes to check my chase account balance, since chase doesn't have a blackberry app yet. Doesn't work with my geico insurance account.

..if your credit union is similar to mine, they require you to answer a security challenge question about every second or third login. This is usally why pageonce will give the error message you speak of; if you switch to the accounts screen there will be a link that you can click to answer the security challenge question for you bank, and then things will resume as normal.

I haven't tried setting it up for house utilities as most all of mine are on an equal-pay/auto-pay setup so I don't pay much attention to them. I am pretty sure though that they get their financial data through a third party service.. as I mentioned, I believe it is the same one that mint.com uses (I forget the name at the moment..), so all they can really do about adding new institutions is forward the request to the third party provider. The good news, is that since both services are expanding their user base quite rapidly, appearently the number of institutions that they can track is also increasing quickly. ..IIRC, both sites have forums were they post updates about newly supported institutions... it might be worth doing a search to see if they now support your needs.


Also, I've been playing with the new 2.5 version and the first thing I notice is that it does not resize properly when switching screen orientation.. but then again I notice some themes also have the issue on my current OS.

I'm still waiting to see how the new push notifications work out...

I don't like this app IMO.. I had it for the S1 and it was slooowww... Now I have it for the S2 and it is slooowwww... No thanks don't waste your time
