Thread: Sirius XM BlackBerry App

Last month BBOS got some reaction from you all on how you may want to try out the then developing BlackBerry application for Sirius/XM radio. Of course we got your feedback and was surprised to see that most preferred the "FREE" applications. Imagine that.
At any rate and with all kidding aside, Sirius XM Radio Inc. released their Sirius XM BlackBerry App and is advertising it as mobile extension of the subscriber's paid premium online service. Initially we get to receive a 7 day free trial offer in which the user will need to sign up for the service. Just a few credentials to submit then the application configures the download. Once configured, you are able to choose from a list of categories including Rock, Jazz/Blues, Talk Radio and Sports. Many more that I could list.
Options include channel details, autoplay at startup and subscription channels just to name a few.
Let's talk cost. As I said earlier this is an "extension" with that being the key word, of the subscriber's paid premium online service or internet service. What that means is to subscribe to the internet service for $12.95 per month. Then in order to utilize the mobile version just throw in an additional $2.99 a month.

$16/Month, what are they SMOKING? Have they ever heard of Slacker or Pandora? Sirius is nice but not for almost $200 a year........

$200 is ridiculous, but I have had Sirius for about 7 years now and am addicted to it.
I called them last week with every intention on cancelling, and they offered me a year for $99 bucks so I couldnt resist. So now I will get the additional subscription so I can have it on my berry also. Today is a good day.

Chances are, if your sub is about up, call Sirius up and start to cancel and they will probably come down dramatically in price. They dont want to lose you.

I tried it out and I still like Slacker Radio better.
1. I can skip songs in Slacker
2. The UI in Slacker is a lot better than Sirius
3. The price, $35 for an annual subscription to Slacker is a lot more reasonable than Sirius.

I'd almost bet that the cost is to cover all the stupid licensing fees record labels want.

Even though we knew there would be no Howard 100 or Howard 101, it still drops the value of this app. I can understand that all the NFL channels aren't going to be on a mobile app because they aren't even available on the internet channel lineup - but Howard 100 and 101 is available on the Sirius internet player!! If its available to listen online, we should be able to have it on this app! Until we get some Howard on this mobile app, I will forever be just one bad mood shy of not renewing my quarterly subscription.

This is going to fail or at least it should. Slacker Radio and Flycast are more than good enough for me -- give me a break!

My my my, this could be the best day ever! I have two car subscriptions to Sirius and the internet subscription for my Ipod. I Downloaded the app to my storm2 and I just used my internet sign on name and password and I have the service. I could be the happiest person in the world. I gladly pay 27 bucks a month for Sirius and I love every dollar of it!!!

Two issues with the app so far:
1. No landscape support; app will only display in portrait mode
2. The volume cannot be controlled if the app is "minimized".

I thought I was a premium Sirius subscriber so I was excited to try this out. When I tried to login to my account, it said I needed to upgrade my account. I won't be doing that or testing the app. Lame.

I have sirius in my car but way too expensive for my blackberry as well.

I'm pretty sure what ever they are smoking is against the law! Just like charging $200 a year to be able to listen to music ought to be! I'll sync my music and listen for free without commercials and a lot of yakking, thank you very much and have a nice day Sirius!

I had XM years ago, and loved it. But now with 3G phones running Pandora ...

I'm sorry Sirus/XM. You are so last year ...

YES! #2 drives me crazy. :cussing:

Plus the app drains the battery something fierce. But as a current paid subscriber, with streaming access, it was basically a free app--and offers a variety of talk shows unmatched elsewhere.

Too expensive!

does it work over BIS connection???
cause I tried pandora and it doesn't work. connection other than BIS, causes extra charge
