New beta version of the free backup app Aurkon released

A few days ago, Applico, the makers of the free backup solution for BlackBerry, Aurkon, released a new beta version: 1.0.1.6.

Never heard of Aurkon? It is said to be THE install and forget backup solution for your berry. Active only, when your device is idle, it OTA backups your berry from contacts to settings, just everything to your personal free account. You don't need a backup? Never thought of your berry being lost, stolen, or bricked? Think twice! It could happen to you any time, anywhere, and surely it will happen when you least expect it... The 4.5 stars rated app is available for merely all berry devices via AppWorld.

Is this app pretty heavy on the data usage? I dont have an unlimited plan and worried that this might eat up alot of my data. Anyone who has used this app, how is it for data usage?

Just be aware that the application is collecting data on your phone usage and resells it to 3rd parties...

Do you have any proof of this?

Doesn't look like there is another way other than App World.

Of course. In this interview of the author: College Startups: Strip Down to the Essentials - Entrepreneur.com

That involves developing a free application called Aurkon that backs up contacts, phone logs, calendar entries, tasks, text messages and memos, storing them safely online in case a device is stolen, lost or damaged. In exchange for the service, Applico is able to aggregate non-personal data about smart-phone usage and provide advanced real-time features such as traffic information, population density distributions and tracking how many business miles a user acccumulates in a year for tax write-offs.
Everything is also described in the hidden privacy policy...

I think you may be making it sound worse than it might actually be.

Doesn't sound like any more than what a lot of big companies like Google and Microsoft already do, in my opinion.

Well, if I decide to use a search engine, I expect the company behind it to use some of that data to build a profile of my online behavior (unless I block it), but I certainly don't expect a backup application to go through all my personal data to do the same or to use my phone as its own personal lab to collect data about my current location.

But I agree, I should rephrase, my original statement.

    Back-Up

Backing up your information is always a good idea, not putting all your eggs in one basket, even better!
