Thread: Business Card Reader now available for BlackBerry devices

If you’re like me then you get a lot of business cards handed to you. Problem is who has the time to input all that info into your berry? I love my BlackBerry but sometimes typing in numerous contacts can be a very tedious task and one that often gets put on the backburner. Well, the developer SHAPE Services has finally brought the popular app "Business Card Reader" to the BlackBerry. This handy little app scans the business card and automatically inputs contact info into your address book. Can’t get much easier than that! The app is currently only available for the Tour, Curve 8900, Storm, Storm 2, Bold 9700. The app is $9.95 but they offer a free 7 day trial. 10 bucks really doesn’t seem too bad for an app that could save a ton of boring text input. But enough of my rambling. Download the trial and let us know what you think about the app.

Has anyone had a chance to try this out yet, does it work?

Gonna give it a shot Monday. All my cards are at the office. I will report back.

I cant get past the "registration" its like my track ball dont work, but it works everywhere else

Well does not run very smoothly on my storm ... Do not like it...

try changing the compatibly mode.

If this was For me i already killed it since handling On my storm was too complicated...

Didn't work well on my S2 ... didn't like it

I am wondering if the developer even beta tested the app on a Storm? It's pretty much totally unsuable.

App is very sluggish. Scrolling on a touchscreen is all jacked up and doesn't work very good at all(if at all).Took a picture of a card and then tried to load the picture. I have hundreds of pics on my phone and not being able to scroll through the list or see a preview of the pic, it's nearly impossible to use. So i decided to move the pic to a easy to get to directory. Finally I was able to scan the card. The results....well, not very good. It would take me longer to fix the errors than it would to just input the info in address book.

I give the app 2 thumbs down on the 95xx. Doesn't appear that is was tested well before launch. Maybe other devices work better.

I see versions to download for OS 4.6 and 4.7 === Storm 2 is running 5, is this part of the problem?

Don't know, maybe. But the Storm 2 is on their approved devices. Doesn't make sense if that's the case.

Disabled compatibility mode but found the same things as posted here. Two thumbs down for sure on Storm 1 ...unless we're all missing something obvious. Especially bad design in not being able to preview the pictures that have been taken; just get a list....impossible to use!

No go on the 9550 here either.

it froze my 9530 - numerous times. Had to reboot. Finally uninstalled it. Looks interesting IF they can get it to work.

it kept missing the words on the cards I tried. Big thumbs down from me. I had to input all the details on the card after it had scanned so i might as well do it myself the first time without bothering to scan.
So in my humble view, doesn't work on the STORM 9500.

Hopefully the developer will update this for the touchscreen devices. I know I've requested it along with probably a few hundred others.
