Thread: Advisory Notifications issue for BerryWeather

So I recently D/Led berryweather and thought I'd give it a try. Aside from the obvious issue with the home screen icon not updating (a known 5.0 bug), I've noticed that the advisory notifications never seem to go away!!

I have gone through every setting there is and "unchecked" all of the advisory options..I've literally changed about 7 different categories in the settings so that I should not be getting ANY advisory notifications, but they still come up!!

I can "read all" advisory warnings and they go away, but within minutes the notification pops back up! Anybody know if this is another bug or if there is a fix? I was liking the app and considering the full version when my trial ends, but if this is another bug, that sure isn't going to happen.

There is no way this company should be charging $10 for an app that doesn't work. Ridiculous!:aargh4:

at least you get weather advisories.

I am in Canada, and i have yet to receive an advisory. all the free weather apps supply advisories. yet this one does not.

In addition, when the weather updates, which i have set to 15 minutes, it's still usually 2 or 3 hours behind all the other apps...

very frustrating for a "premium" app.

the only saving grace is that I did not pay for this app. I won it on a BBOS giveaway. I would be SUPREMELY pissed if I would have spent 10 bucks on this app

Odd. I will notify Bellshare of this thread so we can get your questions or concerns figured out.

I haven't had the problems with the icon update on the Tour, but have noticed the advisory updates. I would head over to Bellshare and post in the support forum, maybe they can give some guidance on the issue.
Did you run the trial period on v 2.0, if so were those problems present ?

Yep 2.0 is what I used and had these problems...to those in Canada, I can certainly understand the frustration of NOT getting advisories, but honestly, at this point, I wish I didn't get any.

Imagine getting a calendar reminder every 20 minutes for the same thing every day...

Haven't had an issue like that, if all else fails..delete it, reboot the phone (batt pull) and reinstall. Couldn't handle a constant alert...

yup...imagine getting stuck at the airport for 3.5 hours because you based your travel plans on berryweather. then missing your connecting flight and then being a day late for an appointment...

Fair enough that I should have done more research, but when you are travelling as much as I do, you have to be able to compress the info and make decisions based on what you have...

I just firmly believe that this app has some SERIOUS issues which need to be addressed before they can even CONSIDER charging a fee for it.

in my defense...

when i am on the road, I typically hit 3 or 4 cities in 48 hours...so updates would be nice...and I certainly rely on them....

I'm with ya as far as their fee for the app being waaay too high with so many bugs! Those that purchased should be offered a refund and any future buyers should be issued the app at a discount along with full disclosure that the not all of the app's features work correctly with 5.0 . That's just smart, fair business sense.

Let me start off by saying that I'm a big fan of Berryweather. It is one of my favorite apps. I get my advisory alerts. And the alerts go away after I read them. Are you sure you have that setting correct in the options?

At one point I was not getting my updates but I changed my weather station and everything started updating properly. The station you are using might be offline. Try changing to a different station.

As for the constant advisory updates - We have had a real bad stretch of weather here for the past 24 hours and I kept getting advisory updates 24 hours before the weather hit and kept getting them throughout the day. So maybe you are getting different advisory updates as the weather conditions change.

Even though I have my settings to update every 15 minutes I notice that my updates are always 30 minutes behind. The update depends on how often the weather station you are using updates. If you have it set for 15 minutes but the station only updates every hour you will get updates every hour.

I agree with Cruz. You might want to delete, reinstall, and then batt pull. I haven't had any of the issues you describe. I have been getting lots of advisories but the notifications go away once I read them. I am also not having any issue what so ever with the homescreen icon updating. I'm running BBC v10. I notice you list your OS as .320, that might be an issue, but I really have no idea. So far I'm really liking BW2, hopefully you can get your issues resolved over at the Bellshare forum.

Seems like you two Glock Guy and Mr Wireless are the only ones at this time having the issues.
I think I would hold off on statements that are as hard as yours are Mr Wireless especially since it doesn't look like you have tried up contact BellShares customer support.
On another note. I don't recall glockguy being one of the winners for the 20 free copies. So now I would like to know how you got the coupon code because I have the real winners telling me that their codes no longer work now.

There is no issue with the weather advisories, when you go into settings you need to check the advisories that you don't want to receive (hence the word filter), once you've done that and rebooted you will only receive advisories for the ones that you have left unchecked.

It could be that I am not describing the situation clearly enough. The advisories do go away once I read them, but then minutes later I get another one and it's the same advisory.

I've gone in and "unchecked" all of the advisory categories (i.e Flash Flood Warning, Tropical Storm Warning, etc.). First I unchecked all but Winter Warning and I continued to get flood warnings, then I unchecked everyone INCLUDING Winter Warning and still got the advisories. There is definitely something wrong, because all of my settings are set to NOT show advisories in notification area. At this point, I do not want any advisories. Hopefully, I was more clear this time

You obviously didn't read my post above yours, as I stated in my post...the settings that you are using are causing you to get the advisories that you are leaving UNCHECKED. In order to receive none of the advisories you need to CHECK all of the boxes, save, and then reboot.

Well I know of plenty of other users experiencing this issue as well, and although it may not be affecting everyone, it is affecting enough people that I felt the post justified. By the way, I have reached out to their support and am awaiting a response - did so after Brett's post. I am running .320 - the only official OS for this phone, so if the others that are having success are running a hybrid then I most certainly would install that on my phone. I don't feel, though, that I should have to install a hybrid to get a $10 app to work. I'm sure you can understand my frustration, and if it was just a handful of people experiencing this issue then I wouldn't come down so hard on them.

Even if I am making all of this up and there is no "advisory" issue, there is still the obvious home screen update issue, so my question is still valid: How can you honestly defend charging $10 for an app that doesn't work fully? Either provide full disclosure that you're releasing this app for a device that isn't fully supported yet (but at a discounted rate to those that have said device), release a beta at no charge, or don't release the app at all and wait until it's perfected.

P.S. for those of you that said they have no issue with the advisories, can you try this (only if you want to)...turn OFF all advisory types and see if you still get any. If you do NOT get any advisories after this, then you truly do not have any issues with the app...I have a feeling though that some people (not ALL, but some) that think they don't have the issue actually do. did you take off the advisory auto update? and secondly have you contacted Bellshare yet?

Spoken like a true Jim Zorn fan...just kidding just kidding... I have tried BOTH!! In my first post, I believe I said I have tried every combination of setting changes (including having all the categories CHECKED and UNCHECKED) and still get the same results.

Let me start by saying that I do appreciate all the replies and help, but folks please read what I am posting. I've said several times now that I have changed every setting and have edited every combination of settings that this app has to offer. It would take me an entire page to post all of the settings I actually adjusted on this app. Nothing is stopping the notifications...will let you know if I have any success or response from support...
