Thread: TetherBerry - Use your BB as a wireless modem for FREE!

TetherBerry, which will officially release their application March 9th has an application that allows you to use your Blackberry as a wireless modem. Some carriers such as Verizon who suck every penny out of you, actually make you pay for this feature on your blackberry. Well, using Tetherberry, there is no need. (After March 9th, you do have to purchase this program) I think this is a great application to use if your carrier makes you pay. OR if you have tried to set up a network connection on your computer and have failed, Tetherberry is VERY easy. A few steps actually. Just download both files, open both applications on your BB and PC and connect via USB and you are connected.

I just did this and did a speed test over at speedtest.net and I got 145kbps for download and 34kps for upload. This is still decent speed through your BB and allows you to send email, talk on AIM. Obviously not good speed to download large files.

I still highly suggest downloading this application. Its one worth having!

Seems there trial period is over. It's now a one time payment of 39.99 til the 15th (today). I used the beta, and worked flawless. It's definitely cheaper than the monthly package. I, myself, wouldn't use it enough to justify paying for it. What's you guy's thoughts?

Ya. I def love the concept. Depending on the price I may purchase it, even though I never tether the berry but its always something good to have. We'll see what they put the price to. Honestly, I think anything more then 40.00 may be charging to much.

I used it during the beta, and I purchased it as well. For me on my laptop, it doesn't work 100% of the time when I tell it to connect, but I can usually get a connection with about 2-3 tries.

Like I said, I have used the beta, but have yet to purchase. You are correct, it is a one-time fee. I think it also allows you to switch phones (only one active at a time) for free or for a small additional fee.

Yes there is currently a one-time fee of $39.95 (which is a special price that has been extended through today). TetherBerry.com may decide to extend the special price out, but at this time it is unsure of whether or not that will happen. There is also a 30 day money back guarantee as well. I did use it as a beta, and also became a paying customer as soon as the app was released for sale. You can have more than one blackberry with TetherBerry, BUT only one blackberry can be activated at a time. TetherBerry decided, after getting input from customers/potential customers, to do away with additional fees to switch PINS. So, it does seem they listen to the wants/needs of the customers ;-)

Also, you can install the TetherBerry desktop on as many computers as you wish.

Nice informative post statustray. I agree that they are very customer friendly. I followed most of the beta thread over at the other forum. They were extremely helpful and actually took the findings, wheather good or bad, back to there programers for updating.

I'm so happy to be able to tether for a one time fee.... hehehe....

The way I look at it, if the company folds a year from now... I've still saved a TON of money... heck $30 per month for 12 months = $360 just for tethering, and now minus the onetime lifetime $40 fee = a savings over Verizon of $320 (just per year) ^wink.^

Sorry I didn't see your post till just now. I will have to post back later when I tether my bb. Right now, I am using my wireless on the laptop cuz it's so much faster. Once I do tether again, I will make note and report back.

I wouldn't mind using it, but my question is can't Verizon tell if you’re using this? If I remember there was a huge ongoing battle about it over at crackberry.
