WiFi Hero automatically controls your WiFi Power Status to save power and make your battery last longer. WiFi Hero can automatically turn off or turn on WiFi power based on your location, screen status (on/off) and charging status (on charger/off charger). This is a very small application (about 12K), and it is very easy to use - install it, set application's working mode, and you are saving power!

Features:
The application has three working modes:
1. Location Based. In this mode, WiFi Hero will automatically learn the location of the WiFi Hotspot you are currently connected to, and when WiFi is not connected (you are out of range of this Hotspot), WiFi Hero will automatically turn off WiFi - and when you come back to the same Hotspot location, it will automatically turn on WiFi.
2. Screen Status. In this mode, WiFi Hero will automatically turn on WiFi when the screen is on and automatically turn off WiFi when the screen is off - making this very useful when you use your Blackberry to browse the web.
3. Charging Status. In this mode, WiFi Hero will automatically turn on WiFi when the device is on charge, and automatically turn off WiFi when device is not charging and on battery power.
This application is very small (about 12K) and is optimized for battery life.
This application's permission need to be set to all "allow"

So far it doesn't work like it is suppose to. It doesn't shut off my WiFi when I leave a hotspot. In fact when I shut it off manually, it keeps turning it back on. I emailed their support and they said it is detecting my cell phone tower. There is suppose to be an update coming out today so I'll let you know how that goes.

The main problem with Wifi is forgetting to turn it off (you always remember to turn it on, especially if you're not getting anywhere). So the biggest benefit is turning Wifi off. With that said, I use a program called AddOnis. It does a lot more than just turn off your Wifi, I use it mainly for adding both incoming and outgoing calls to may calendar. Great for tracking how long you spend on the phone and to who.

If you're not familiar with AddOnis, here's the short list of some of the features:

Phone Call - Vib on connect, vib on disconnect, LED notification for missed calls, vib when ringing, prompt to add call number to address book, log received and placed calls to calendar, firewall with white and black list to include blocking of private and unknown numbers, autolock, sms signature, number lookup and of course the Wifi disconnect option.

I'm sure I've missed some of the options but as you can see, there are a lot.

So if your biggest issue is turning off the Wifi, try this one, I've used it and had no problems with it (other than operator error ). Good little program.
