Thread: Powermat developing true "drop and charge" capabilities for BlackBerry

Powermat, the maker of the popular wireless charging mats for mobile devices has announced they hope to bring a "drop and charge" solution to BlackBerry. Currently, the Powermat system works by attaching a special case to your mobile device and then laying it on the charging mat.

"We are looking into putting the technology into phones but it is a complex process," a company spokesperson commented. Powermat is hoping that by early 2011, they will be able to integrate their technology into the phone itself, eliminating the need for extra bulk being attached to the phone in order to work. The Palm Pre is one that already sports this technology, Powermat hopes they can bring their tech across all platforms. Hopefully we will see this very soon being that we are moving more and more each day into a wireless world. This would be an awesome addition to my Torch!

I hate to sound like a pessimist, but how is the back cover going to work? The charge port is on the side of many devices and the back (battery) cover has to be inserted from the bottom of the device and locked at the top. Are there going to be wires hanging out to accomodate this, or is there going to be some sort of sketchy battery cover that includes the built-in battery and charger, that will have to be ever-so-carefully tilted into the device while holding one's tongue just right so it matches up to the power leads?
I may as well not even worry about it, there won't EVER be one made for the storm 1, which I still have and have had no real issues with, as of yet, save for the fact I, and many others who still use them are tired of being passed ever whenever there is a new OS or update to an app.
Hope big red gets the IPhone soon.
