Accesory Review: OtterBox Impact for Bold 9650
Overview
I recently picked up a Bold 9650 and decided to pick up an OtterBox for some serious protection. This is my third OtterBox case so I had high hopes for this case. The first thing I noticed I liked was the packaging was fairly easy to open; nobody likes having to struggle to open up their packages. Inside, there is a microfiber cloth to clean your device, a screen protector, the actual case and a squeegee for applying the screen protector. The major hang up I have with the case is how difficult it is to apply the screen protector. I had success by applying one half, making sure that didn't have bubbles or dirt, then applying the rest of the case very slowly. Other than that, I think I found a case that offers a great balance between protection, size and price.
Look and Feel
One thing you'll notice about the OtterBox is how much bulk it adds to your device. Compared to the OtterBox I placed on my 9550, this one feels considerably lighter and less bulky. When I first gave an OtterBox case to my brother, I told him to keep the case on for at least a week to get used to it. These cases are for people who are serious about their protection. The one thing I really liked was the texture on the sides of the case. The top keys as well as the volume rocker all have raised plastic. The area around them has a cracked plastic texture which I really like. I thought the device feels really good in my hand and having raised plastic over the volume keys fixes one of my biggest pet peeves with the Bold 9650; I wish the volume keys were similar to the Bold 9700.
Final Thoughts
I found the case to be close to perfect for me; massive protection, relatively cheap (~20USD), and extremely comfortable. The major issue I had with the case is the charge port is not centered in the case. It seems like they basically took the Tour case and sold it for the 9650. Functionally, not a huge deal but it makes me feel like a sucker and it comes off as cheap. I included a picture below to show you what I mean. Compared to the Impact case for the 9700, I prefer the 9650 case. It feels better and looks better in my opinion. There are a few more images below, take a look and give me your opinion. Overall, I give the case an 9 out of 10 and would recommend it to anyone.
