BlackberryOS Product Review - Colorware
I have finally gotten some free time and was able to write this review. This is the first of a few reviews I have lined up for this week, at the same time I've been excited about this review. I heard of Colorware before BlackberryOS was created. At the time I only had one BlackBerry and I was not comfortable with sending my only phone in to get it painted. I stuck with printed vinyl such as unique designs and other vinyl printing companies. Fast forward to present time and I now have more BlackBerry devices then I could imagine, I have no issues with sending in one of my devices. I decided to paint my Tour as that is my primary device. I went over to Colorware's website where I was able to choose from a variety of different colors for the device. You have three different types of colors to choose from. Solid colors, metallic colors and pearl colors ; I wanted a slick clean look and a two tone color scheme. I chose a steel metallic color for the top and bottom pieces, frames and inner back as the sides and outer back are a diamond pearl color. You can see from the mock up from their website below.
After about an hour of trying different colors I finalized my original choice and submitted my paint colors. Some how I managed to pack up my Tour and ship it off to Colorware for its make over. The entire process from shipping to Colorware to receiving the final product was 2 weeks. It was a very long two weeks especially when I switched to the 8530 during the Tour make over. Then the day finally came, the day where Fed Ex handed me the box I had been so excited to get. I literally tore the box apart and was blown away by the final product. It looked decent in the mock up from the Colorware website but looking at my Tour it was 100x better looking. The device came back with the default black keypad but I had a chrome keypad and was worried how the chrome would look with the steel color. Luckily, it looked awesome when I put the keypad in.
Looking at the two pictures you can agree with me that the metallic steel color looks amazing as well as the pearl diamond color on the sides and back.
I hate to even say this but I have dropped my Tour once since receiving the new look and the paint on the device still looks 100% mint, no paint damage. I am very pleased with the final product and I am getting ready to send in the 8530 to get painted. More images are at the bottom of this post.
Pros : Amazing quality, great communication between myself and Colorware, great pricing, ability to use custom color (added cost). Finally the most important pro, 100% customer satisfaction.
Cons : Not able to change keypad color (which is not a big issue, you can always purchase a colored keypad on the internet. Time frame to paint device and ship (again, not a big issue. They have a lot of requests so I can see them getting backed up a bit).
Overall : Overall, I am very pleased with the final product. The two con's listed above are not a huge issues to make me not want to continue business. The time frame, even being 2 weeks is understandable since you have to take your time in order to produce a perfect product which Colorware has done. I would recommend Colorware to anyone!
