Thread: bb10 is excellent but there is some basic this is missing

as i use Blackberry devices since last 10 years, now i got new BB Z10, i find very basic need of any mobile is missing in this device, like when we are in call log menu we do not have any option for search and favourite contacts while in BB os 7 it was available,

I don't know how they are going to exactly handle that feature. But with the Z10, it's just as easy for me to swipe up the call app screen into a active frame and then tap the search icon, which will find contacts.

within the call app you can selectt contacts and hit search. easy.

I'm used to doing a few things at a time. lol

some features in BB OS 6 & BB OS 7 which make blackberry best in the world , and these features was not available in any OS like Apple IOS, Android & Nokia Lumia. these features are :--

1. In Call log menu of BB Os 6 & OS 7 we were able to see the name and number of caller, and we can search directly form call log menu, and the best thing was that the favourite contacts option was there.

But in BB 10 this all things is not available, if we have more than one caller with the same name in call log list it become difficult to identify that who is the caller because only name is displayed in BB 10. while in OS 6 & 7 there were displayed name with number of caller.

2. In BB OS 6 & 7 when any body calls us the name , last name , Company name and number of caller displays on the screen, but in BB 10 only name displays even number is not displayed , it ecom very confusing to know that who is calling.


I am very disappointed to know that these basic features has been ignored by develop team.

1. in the call app u can just select contacts at the bottom and hit search. it will display all info just like legacy OS. only diff is that the font and presentation look different.
2. when using search, u can also type the company name or anyother relevant info of that particular contact. it works. im using the Z10 now and i can confirm this.

if u too have a Z10 try the search feature and search with company name or firstname, last name, ect..

i for one am very very very happy with this OS. its the best blend of legacy BBs and future. and remember it can only get better from here. the latest OS update fixed the bedside mode issue and the battery is atleast 80-90% improvement.

i want to update my BB Z10, when i connected it to BB link i cancelled update option by mistake, now if connect my BB Z10 to BB Link it does not show any update option i tried a lot, please let me know how can i update my mobile.

You can update your device over web too. Just go to... BlackBerry - Software Updates - New Update Software for BlackBerry Smartphones - US

Plug your device into your computer, scroll down to where you see "update on the web" and then choose to update.

You must be using a PC and the Firefox browser in order to update via the web.

Also, don't forget to backup your device prior.

sir "update on the web" is working for OS 7 only it does not work for OS 10,

It does work for OS 10 because I updated my own Z10 that way.

What carrier are you with? It could be that your carrier has yet to approve a update for your Z10.

I am from India, and my carrier is IDEA, but as you said that i can update my OS 10 by using update on the web i tried it but it works only for lower version like OS 7 & Os 6 only. can you tell me why Blackberry Link does not show Update when i connect my device to it.

I recently got a Z10 and was very excited to explore the new OS 10 platform but as a long-time OS5, OS6 and recent OS7 user I soon found out that many of the old features are missing in OS 10. Tasks, MemoPad, BIS status, BlackBerry Protect Backup and Restore settings, BBM status, Sounds for selected contacts, no bridge to Playbook for Messages, Contacts, Calendar, BBM, Remember? and the list can go on. I have a Prepaid mobile and BIS plan but the BIS only works with WiFi so this is almost useless. My device came with OS 10.0.9.2372 but so far no updates are available. I'm a bit disappointed but I hope an update will fix those missing features or add some enhancements to the existing (lacking) features.

When I tried to play video in facebook, I couldn’t play it at all. So I expect that this device/OS should support to play everything from MPEG to AVI format.

I cannot comment on video formats in Facebook because I haven't yet played any video in Facebook but I will check it out at the earliest opportunity. However, I have been quite impressed with all the video formats supported on the Z10 itself and on YouTube. The Z10's performance has definitely surpassed the PlayBook and other earlier Blackberry devices in this area. There have been some other improvements in a few other areas (features and options) mentioned in my earlier comments and since the latest unofficial leaked OS releases but I would expect much more to bring the Z10 features on par with those of earlier Blackberry devices. Perhaps the next major OS release 10.2 expected later this year might address most of those issues.
